Mafyou
Hi there, needing a bit of help here.I got spark plugs only two months ago (NKG Platnum). And the other day it started misfiring and the spark plugs were covered in oil. I have already cleaned the carb a couple and used a full tin of the stuff! I also put o breather filter on to try stop the oil getting in a couple months ago but the spark plugs still got oil on them. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, cheers. Defcon5
Sorry, do you mean the spark plugs are getting oil on them from the crankcase breather?
Mafyou
I mean the spark plugs getting oil on them.
Defcon5
Yes, I realise that but on the spark side or the HT side? The plugs are nowhere near the TB or PCV system, so unsure why you are mentioning them
Mafyou
Oil is on the spark side
Mafyou
Sorry forgot to mention, my cousin put the breather on and I'm not sure where it is but he said the oil won't get to the spark plugs. If what I said makes any sense at all lol
Defcon5
Possibly valve stem seals or piston rings, both are not uncommon unfortunatley.
Mafyou
Don't know much about them lol, what shouldd I do?
Defcon5
Get your cheque book out I would get a professional diagnosis tbh, that way you will know for sure. If its not affecting the running of the car then it isnt too much of a problem. Are your emissions readings ok on the MOT?
Mafyou
Yeah, well I went for one in March and they never mentioned anything so I'm assuming the emmisions are fine
VW_LUPO 1
Just take them out, clean them and replace them if it comes back then go see a professional. worn piston rings, but i have had oil on mine and i cleaned them and its fine. have you got blue smoke coming out the back, are you misfiring
