I wouldn't normally introduce myself as a "newbie" but you'll see from the number off post/topics of mine that I'm new. Hi. I actually signed up to this not too long after I got my Arosa but never really needed to use it (until I started posting etc).

ANYWAY....there's progress with the car. I got some new SPAX 40mm SSX springs and some 14" VW Pirelli P-Slots, both of which I'm mighty pleased with even though they're not on the car yet. I'll hopefully be getting springs fitted, as well as tracking re-done, at college for free but I need to wait and see. Else it's about £80 at a Bosch Service garage near where I work which is a decent price for a proper setup. I just got my alloys tonight with 7 tyres (weird number, I know) for a decent price so I was in the basement cleaning them up; I think they need a slight touch up. Money is tight for me so I'll get these done, when I get them done but I'm just pleased they're sitting waiting (especially the p-slots!!!)

Cheers.

Yeah man. Actually fitted the P-Slots tonight and they were/are looking sweet. Need an airgun to take off the bump strips and wording on the tailgate but that'll come soon. I was at Knockhill today so left a post asking folk/someone to get in touch if they could help me with rear lights so will be on to that soon enough. It's only my 2nd car and my 1st one was totally standard so doing a bit of OEM modding till I'm happy!

I'm confused when it comes to them. The 1 litres don't have them, my 1.4 does but it's not colour coded, and then the 1.4 16v Sports have colour coded ones! Silver ones may look quite nice on my ride but if you notice, heaps and heaps of cars have some sort of side strip; they can be really crap! My Clio had them and I hated them, at the time I wanted the ones off the Clio Sports (172s/182s) and painted the same colour as the car - then you have that horrible plastic crap on the front and rear bumpers which sits vertically smack bang in the middle of the bumper, looks crap.

The Arosa though has the "horrible plastic bits" at the very bottom of the bumper, where all the crap off the road will hit so they ain't crap and seem more purposeful. I just think it'll give it a smooth look - they can always be put back on.

Do I not need to make x-amount of post before I can upload pictures?

I managed to get the "Seat Arosa S" letters off and have bagged them. Also managed to get the side strips off. I'm left with a thin clear glue-like layer which I can't get off atm but will read out how to get it off. I used elbow grease, petrol (yes, petrol), "Sticky Stuff remover" and plastic DIY knives (like the metal ones in various home stores). Got my P-Slots put on my policy, only cost £25. I'm desperate to get it lowered now - think I might even get it done tomorrow and get the guy to check the wheels are alright too.

Just need a couple more pieces and I'm happy.

I'll see about photobucket/flickr.

Lighter fluid/petrol will probably be as effective as each other - but your tools man - what did you use? I thought I had the best tool for the job with those plastic DIY decorating knives. :-( I'm driving around with that glue still on, even some of the foam black stuff on my N/S lol

I went to Halfords after work today and bought Auto Glym Remover stuff. Used that on a jay cloth, wiped it on, left for a wee bit while wetting up other parts, then came back to that 1st bit, put some more of that remover stuff on, then used my plastic college card and it worked. The back is looking sweet. N/S too. Just drivers side to do and it takes a while. Getting it lowered on Wednesday hopefully. Smye

Hi evry1,

I'm a newbie too.... Just got my Seat Arosa on Monday night there, but not got it on the road yet till the log book comes back boo hoo!!! Im from Fife too. My Seat Arosa is a stocker 1.4S Tdi in red. I would prefer if it was black or silver but I missed out on the chance of getting a Black Tdi Arosa last friday. I was surprised and found the diesel had a bit more oomph than I thought it would have. Unfortunately its got a light interior and I would prefer it if it was dark (all my previous cars have had dark interiors and hides the dirt a bit better!!!) When I bought it off the guy, he said it hadn't been serviced although it has got previous service history. Its got 36,500 miles and the service indicator has just come on. Although it had not long been MOT'd and Taxed I know it would be better if I serviced it before I put it on the road. Can anyone tell me if as well as a service, would it also need the timing belt and tensioners replaced? I will get round to putting some pics on here of it soon... If anyone could give me any advice including modding as this also my first diesel motor I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Alright man, where about you from in the Kingdom? I'm a Dunfermline lad. Where I work there's a couple of Lupos and a couple of Rozzers but I don't see many about here and if I do, they're usually driven by a mature person. I saw a black Lupo at the racers in Dunfermline a few nights back.

Your Rozzer sounds nice. What age is it? 36k on the clock sounds a bargain. For the mileage it's at, I think you'll be sorted with a minor service, get things checked over. I don't think the timing belt and tensioners will need touched at the mileage you're at tbh.

Modding as in performance? There'll be stuff on here so you'll have to look around.

Take it easy.

Alright folks?

I haven't been on for a while as I just get the updates via email :-). I thought I'd pop on and update what's happening with my motor. It's pretty much the same old. I've been running the standard wheels for a while as I wanted to refurb the P-Slots. So I took them off months and months ago and until recently, sat in the basement.

I had an operation nearly 2 months ago and was off work for 2 weeks recovering. So on the weekend before I was to go back to work, I decided to do some work with the P-Slots. I've got 2 wheels to a semi-decent standard which are sittig in my room and the other 2 which were in the process of getting the face shined up. I REALLY need a machine of some sort to rotate the wheels, like a lathe or pottery wheel - I could do it like this but don't fancy the cost of fuel!

My car is now approaching 30k miles. It's due it's MOT mid December and I'm going to get it a full service hopefully.

I think it was last Monday 8th November that my car wouldn't start! I was just about to set off for college and the car didn't start. That Monday was really cold, my car was frozen over to ****. I tried starting it and all I got was the starting motor turning over but the engine would not latch on and go under it's own steam. I was shocked. I waited a few seconds, then easily pumped the accelerator whilst holding the key - the engine sort of started, it was as if it reached what I would describe as half idle speed, maintained this for a few seconds then stopped. It done this a couple of times then eventually came to life so I gassed the pedal a bit then let the engine run for a minute before setting off.

On the morning of Tues 9th Nov, the weather was the same. Yet my car started no bother?! It made me really confused as to why the car wouldn't start on Monday!

So, my car is getting a free pre-MOT check, and will then hopefully get an MOT and service at roughly the same time.

But there we go, a wee update. No major plans for the car. It's a 1.4 8v Auto and I fancy a more powerful manual ride so will just keep the car looking good and healthy till about late 2012 where I'll probably look about getting rid of it; this is my plan at the moment.

Cheers.
