Jack
Hi everyoneI'm experiencing a dangerous/ annoying problem with my W Reg Lupo 1.0E. Sometimes when I start out on a trip with a cold engine after about `2-3` miles the engine losses power. The oil light comes on and the warning buzzer sounds. The first few times it happened I stop and then restarted the engine and it was immediately fine. In fact, now, if I turn off the ignition momentarily and straight back on while still going along the engine goes back to normal. So I think that it isn't a low oil pressure issue (BTW - the oil is at max on the dip stick) as the fault would otherwise persist when I restart the engine. In fact, once the engine has played up `2-3` miles from home the engine is fine for the next 20 miles to work. No oil pressure problems and no overheating/ loss of power etc.I have had it hooked up to a diagnostics machine which had logged an engine sensor problem but this has now been replaced. Yet the problem seems to be reoccuring more regularly now.Any suggestions from the Brains at Club Lupo?ThanksJack
tdwindustries
I am no brains, but sounds like an electronic fault. Presume there is no warranty on the car?You are not too far away from Snoopstah, he is the man with VAG COM (diagnostics) this might help....The only answer is to hook it uo to VAG COM and see what it says

Jack
Seen sticker in YLC's window. Kept meaning to join. Problem with losing power made me think today - ask the forum who'll know best. So, kill two birds with one stone - join up and enjoy the chat while hoping someone can come up with a suggestion on what might be the gremlin under the bonnetJ

Snoopy
Are you getting the engine check light to come on ever?Sounds like one of the oil pressure sensors is screwed up if the oil light is coming on. I'll happily probe it with my dongle (`ooo-err`), but whether that will give enough info to diagnose the fault, I don't know. I'm certainly not a mechanic. Are there any local VW specialists you could ask for advice?
Jack
No sign of engine check light coming on. Can't work out why it losses power just before the oil light comes on though. If it was a dodgy wire then I'd expect the light and buzzer, but no loss in performance.Trying to get it into VW at moment, but when I spoke to the workshop manager he didn't seem too confident as to the propblem. Will the ECU have logged the fault - I know some modern cars do?Thanks SnoopstahJ
Yellow Lupo chick
i missed all this!eek... how cool!
Snoopy
The ECU may or may not have logged the fault. If the engine check light was on, there'd definitely be a fault logged. The fact that it isn't doesn't mean that there isn't a fault logged (some faults are classed not serious enough to warn the driver about). You might also think that the ECU would log something that caused the engine to stop, but after having my previous 1.8T engine constantly stalling and never logging a fault code, it seems that's not always the case style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
tdwindustries
is that why you put the 1.6 back in snoop?
Tigzâ„¢
When my lander sender packed in, the EDC light came on and the car went into "safe mode"It could always be that, making you lose the preformance (Being a 1 litre owner myself, I use that word carfully) and the electricl fault causeing the safe mode?Im no mechanic either but I cant think of any other reason for it. Snoopy
QUOTE(tdwindustries)is that why you put the 1.6 back in snoop? No, that's why I rejected the car under the finance agreement and got my money back.
