Change Break disks and break pads

Hi all!

New member of your forum from sweden, bought a Lupo FSI 1.4 2003 two weeks ago and are really pleased with it :)

Last week I left my car on service and they told me that the front break disk and pads needed to be changed soon. But I dident want to spend a lot of money on something that I (perhaps?) can do my self.

So my question is if there are any special tools needed to change the disks on the lupo? I know that there is a quite mess to change the breaks if the break cylinder is round and needs to be pushed in while turning to make it go back in so that the breaks can be changed.

Thanks!

//Peter

Hi Mate

No special tools are required.

A basic socket set and a Philips head (x) screw driver will do the job.

There is a guide around here somewhere.

Hi, thans for fast reply!

Great will have a look on ebay for some good break discs from Germany to order :)

Any one who knows if all lupos uses the same break discs or if its different between models, the Lupo FSI and 1,4 normal gas should be the same?

We didnt get the FSi over hear, so im not sure.

Here we got the 1.4 75bhp and 1.4 100bhp, they have different brakes, so yours will probably have one of those, although i couldnt say which.

Its an easy job though, look for a few guides on how to do it, and make sure you remove a bit of brake fluid when your puching the pistons back to get the new pads in, or it will overflow!

I've just upgraded to EBC grooved asnd dimpled with Green Stuff pads. Cheapest for me was EPC Direct.

Mintex do OEM standard replacements in a box which includes discs and pads available from eBay, though I can't find any at the moment.

Hardest and longest part was removing the carriers as the bolts were well siezed. Give them a good spray with WD40 the night before and clean the bit of the thread that sticks out the back with a small wire brush to clear of the crap.
