Niche
That's hardly any oil compared to mine, it would be fine for a few more months or so.I would recommend he spray some carb cleaner down the throttle body to clean it out.
Adam
It looks ok to me, well thats what mine looked like when i took it out, its just the gunk from the crank case.
jon_273
So a bit of oil is ok then? I never noticed any oil in my 1.4 at all!
simpo
Mine had nowhere near as much oil in it as that when it came out and was replaced with my bmc, though the car only had about 20k on the clock.

cookie
Mine looked like that when I changed it a week or so back. Whilst I had the filter box open I sprayed all round it with carb-cleaner and gave it a good clean out and then done the throttle body as that looked a bit goopy too. Tigz™
If that was my filter, and it was already out the car Id replace it.They cost less than £20!
LupoEnvy
Seems pretty normal to me - mine was like that - don't know when it was last replaced as I've only bought mine recently. Whacked a new one in and mopped up the gunk in the filter box n tube across the top. Lucky guy who never had oil in his!!! Sorry to go off topic a bit - regarding cleaning the throttle body - what exactly do you clean - my butterfly valve/inlet was clean n shiny - is it just this that you clean? cookie
LupoEnvy - yeah, thats the bit. Mine had a film of oily goo in so I sprayed carb-cleaner in there and wiped it all up.
Tigzâ„¢
If its clean and opening without sticking dont worry about it.
