Tigz™
It wont be the pedal box on a GTI as you have a hydrolic clutch.Does it only happen when its cold?
andyloop
oh i didnt realise that about the clutch.no it happens when its warm aswell.at first i thought it was my driving but now im getting worried its a problem with the car. IanW
go with a cheap option first. Get the alignment of the shifter checked out.
Rich
tbh I can't imagine the cable change on the GTI being out of alignment. The bushes won't have gone, the shifter mech will all be in place. Sounds like the syncromesh has gone. Time for a painfull rebuild.

Rich
always wondered how many miles the box is good for. rebuild should only be about 500 though.
andyloop
guess about 100000 is the answere.if its only 500 the car will still be cheap then.
