i have just looked under the bonnet of my 1.4s and there are some bolts that look to be holding the driveshaft on, they look to have wound themselves out

but i dont know. should they actually be like this?

here is where the problem is, down the right hand side.

they're not the original bolts.

originally they use 8mm splined torque bolts.

I'd get this to a garage asap.

someone's had the engine or box out at some point and not done this right.

are the seals in place?

dear god.

bloody hell thats pretty serious. i'll tell her not to drive it until she gets it sorted!

some t**t we know fitted a new gearbox for her and quite clearly after getting to know him better, he is incapable of doing his job.

what would you reccomend?

put some original bolts back in?

original bolts are there for a reason.

remove the driveshaft, check the seals are in place, winter coming up you may want the grease in there.

bolt the things in properly.

christ, how some people think they can get away with doing work like that ?

okay, hypothetically.

passenger driveshaft falls off, spins about, sticks somewhere locking the wheel solid.

drivers side is still going and makes you swerve off to one side.

you're either in a lot of pain in a bush or you're not in a lot of pain in the bush.

it could possibly rattle if the shaft isn't fully connecting.

gearbox oil wouldn't burn out of there but with the obvious mechanical skill of this monkey I'd get it looked at, there's many places where it could burn from.

although it could be the clutch ?

burning oil could be many things, do you have to top it up a lot ?

well i wouldnt mind but ive had it in at a garage 4 times for them to try and find out what the rattling is and why it burns oil and they couldnt find anything then my boyfriend (EaRNi!) sticks his head under the bonnet and spots it straight away.

it seems they are incompetent monkeys also!!

if they don't do it then I'm in Preston doing a VR6 conversion in an mk3 cab for a friend on the 19th.

sure I can spare on of my crew to do a ten minute driveshaft bolt job.
