I cant seem to get the grill off and Im worried that I'll break it.

I just want to know what size the speakers are in there so I can look around for replacements.

Can any one enlighten me to what I can fit in there without spending much time on 'fitting' eg no modification to the rear panels etc.

Cheers

alright george, i have not had a chance to have the back grills off yet, had the fronts off on saturday while fittin brown bread in the doors and they look like they will take a decent set of aftermarket 6.5 componants but they will need a spacer ring! vw advitize the gti havin a "8 speaker system" so i am asumin they are componants like the front.

i've had em off (ahem...) they are attached with ****ty plastic plugs that love to break so be patient and careful! the gti has 8 speakers, 2 on the dash, 2 in the doors and 4 in the rear quarters (which are 1 iccle one and one bigger one - god i'm technical!)....hope this helps! wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The front is done - have a good idea about bass.

I just get annoyed by the poor speakers in the back - everytime I turn it up distortion ???

....this led me to fade to the front quite a bit...which means when I add the bass I will have to unfade the rear channel (due to amp `set-up`) so I thought I might just pop some reasonable components etc in there.

Kingston Car Audio said they would fix me up a panel that would be flush to the surrounding panel (give me more depth and to replace the one I was trying to get off) so they could fit some more Focal components in the back - but the labour charge will sadly be too much for me...So I gona just drop some in to the standard holes... so the search for some reasonable 6.5" comps begins! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Cheers!

Everyone tells you not bother to replace the rears, but I find it makes a difference - not as much as the fronts obviously, but you can still tell.

My student loan cheque comes through at the end of October (`CHA-CHING`! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) so I'm looking at replacements for then...

It does make a difference, and I like the way I've done my setup smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I'm just sick and tired of my `CD-tuner`...and the `anti-noise` measures I did until now; I mean I could a bit more. But speakers in the rear, well, I feel the difference smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It's up to you smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

george, you could always disconect the back spekers totally at the price of componants they are expensive if you dont realy need them. as for a replacement pannel built by a audio specialist, they are very expensive and usually disapoint. also a different pannell could look very out of place not very stealthy, depends on the look you are goin for.

what componants are people running on here? i usually swear by pioneer top end units. mind you focal are a great company and there drivers are clear as f**k.

Ive got some focals up front (bought With my last student loan cheque - people are going to get the wrong impression about students wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> !)

They are great but pricey ( I went for the polykevlar ones)

I definitly not going for the custom panel. Need to sort out bass first then the rears.

Perfic! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Another good set of components to try is MB Quarts, they do three different ranges depending on how much you want to spend. I've got some in the front, running off a Fusion amp and they sound amazing! All i had to do to fit them was make a spacer ring for the mids and redrill the doors and you can use the existing tweeter mounts, you just need prize them apart from the original tweeters. I'm gonna get another set to replace the alpines i've got in there at the mo and get another amp to run them and ditch the 6x9's i've got. I'll probably get a fusion two channel or D class to run the sub and then use the other two channels on my 4 channel amp to run the components. Then i think its time to put the PS2 in with a screen and a signal processor, that way i'll have a PS2, a dvd player and seeing as the PS2 has a DTS processor i'll have surround sound as well! I'll just have to find somewhere to put a centre channel speaker! I guess ill have to get busy with the glass fibre and mould it to the dash. Only thing is, i don't want it to be seen! The only visible part of my system at the mo is my crossovers, and thats the way i want it to stay, STEALTHY! Banish the thieving scumbags!

any idea where you are gonna put the PS2 as i am puttin one in at the minute and the only place i have left is under the boot floor along with the changer and the battery? i have gone a bit stealthy as i live in a bit of a rough area. have hidden my 2 amps behind each front seat with a matt coverin them. they can be removed for shows and when hot but replaced to stop theivin pickey bastads.

Haven't decided yet! I've still got quite a bit of space (for a lupo!) in my boot due to having a single twelve and a clever box design. All the space i've got left is above the sub n amp though. I might fix it to the underside of my MDF shelf (if its big enough or i'll stand it on its end down the side of the boot. The other option is that is suspend it from the bottom of the dash and make a panel to tidy it all up and hide it away from thievin bastids! I'll have to have a play around with it before i buy a screen just to make sure i can fit it somewhere! I can't put it where the battery is cos my sub box covers the entire floor. I don't wanna have to lift my sub n amp out every time i wanna change the disc or turn it on!

Its quite simple really, although need to be quite good with your hands (believe me ladies, i am! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ) You would also need a table saw to cut some of the mitres accurately. I `e-mailed` some pics to matt, maybe he could post them. Alternatively i could make you one for a reasonable price! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

i have 2 12's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously its easy though i just made my box to the exact measurements of the boot. plus i am a cabinet maker so i have access to all kind of fancy saws, roughters and sanders.

i make mdf boxes for all kinds of shape boots if n e one is interested. done about 12 of my mates cars with all sorts of fancy shape designs, doin a fiberglass install in a pug 206 at the moment all curvey that is goin to be sprayed the cars exterior colour.

Ive been put off, by a audio shop, the idea of a 8" inch in a box next to the battery. They said if would nt be very 'effective'.

I thought if you had it firing into the boot (cone down) and the box peeping above the floor it would be ok?

Fin - perhaps you could make me a box that would fit next to the battery? wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

rich, African or brazillian mahogany? smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

George, are we talkin sealed yeah? n e where you can put a 8 means you can usually put a 10 if ya try, i have not measured the space to the left of the battery but i bet it would add up to a fair old cubic size. if you were talkin jl or rockford there would be loads of room, guess your after keepin some space in the boot.

I was thinking a 8"w3 Jl sub would be a good match for the space and capacity you have next to the battery.

Fin you should design a box that will fit the gap and allow access to the battery cover and offer it to lupo owners - bet you would get loads of custom - including me. wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

best way would be to cover left hand side with cling film or a lot of maskin tape and then go at it with the fiberglass! would be a little difficult in gettin it in and out dependin how far forward you take it. coul then simply put mdf on right hand side next to battery. this would of course need ventin into boot (usin speaker) but this would mean removin the actual boot floor which i am reluctant to do, as it means it is pretty much f**cked when you would come to sell it.

could deff make some if enough intrest, only problem is every one would have to be moulded to wheel well, i can see a lot of fiberglass on my gti!

would also need a lot of sound deadning, but mine already has 2 rolls of brown bread!

If you could make a nice box I'd be interested, when I (eventually) get a sub/amp combo, its gonna be put in the boot *properly* so a proper install would be lovely biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I've got a 12" Rockford Fogate Sub in my boot. I've used an off the shelf 12" ported enclosure. Fits Perfectly.
