The gauge is designed to stay at 90 as long as the car is running within normal tolerance. At a guess I'd say any temperature between 80 and 105 degrees will result in it staying pegged at exactly 90.

If it's reading over, it either means the instrument cluster is up the swanee, the temperature sensor is knackered, or it's actually overheating. In any case, worth getting it checked out if it's under warranty.

Have you heard the fan kick in recently?

Mine has always sat bang on half way on the gauge. Driven in -8 to +32 celcius and the gauge never moves. Been flat out for 5 minutes then stopped idling for 10 minutes and still the gauge never moved!

Think I have only heard the fan running 5 times in 58000 miles.
