Stargate Sentinel
Following flushing, draining and refilling the cooling system, I can only get max hot air from the ventilation system. It doesn't matter what position the temperature control knob is in. Prior to flushing the cooling system, the temperature control worked fine. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be here? Also, does the temperature control knob operate a remote water valve? (I.e. via a cable)
mk2
Coincidence... There's a changeover air divertor flap in the heater box. When you set it to hot, all the air goes through the heater matrix. When on cold, all the cold (or recirculated) air avoids the heater matrix. But you might have a very early model that actually has a flow control valve (but unlikely). Feel the temp of the matrix return flow pipe. See if it gets a bit cooler when the blower is on max, irrespective what the temp control knob is set too- which has probably become disconnected from the cable- and is stuck on heat all the air. 1
Stargate Sentinel
Thanks, I'll look into that. How easy is it to check if a cable has detached from the temp control knob?
mk2
You can feel the difference when you turn the heater control knob. It's not that easy to get to, as everything in front of the gear stick and above the foot wells has to come out. Lots of fragile plastic bits to remove- and refit, with screws that need to be tightened only gently so they don't strip. Take pics as you work (so you know how to get it all back together again) and then write a "how-to" for everyone's benefit 👍🏻😀
lupo1.0se
Sounds like it could be the heater resistor. These are common for failing. I have had it on one of mine. Settings 1/2 would not work but 3/4 would. Part changed and fixed the problem. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153185609570?fits=Car+Make%3AVW|Model%3ALupo&hash=item23aa92e762:g:M14AAOSwnypi3-8q&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4GiJEDFp5p3AYqBcNdV%2BVH9VM3Orntwmqyb4ysuv02DtaZQmQQfKNL1r73HdE7k5lIlNAqdYJnbKtWFDVygK%2Bz3nH1DDGo6vsoV2o4bZWqZBWBBjqoNaYx%2F6ADI9ejTV4IoCiU%2BTO8nzAPAnRQYvWUoNOIw6pti5PmylYb2vmLmfs5zMmhSoVKTiEhlhNi2KtBVPe4W6jgjdy1wglm7a%2F8eD1FvENk%2FBlIIKc4lfY8HyYHmezpj7gxa%2FkN6RPuPq0kHQ0EGKj7heNm9u2kk7O9T2fq8hrw5xmi9YKn%2B3qk0S|tkp%3ABFBMpuyqve5g
