Pringle
I’ve recently bought a Lupo GTI 6 speed and all seems to be well and great apart from with selecting gears. 1st in particular I have to be quite forceful to put in, and the rest are a bit vague. None of them jump out of gear. The car has done around 120k so I’m guessing this is just wear to the linkage and hopefully not the box. Is there anywhere that gear linkages can be repaired/bought? Or any chance this could be the box?
mk2
Yeah, most probably wear, most likely the tower bearing sleeve in the gearbox. Have someone move the gear stick while you hold the tower firmly by hand in neutral to see where the slop is. Then do it again while holding the gear stick still. Have you changed the gear oil yet? Everyone forgets that gearboxes need some love too...
Pringle
Haven’t actually changed the gear oil yet. Might have to give that a try. Do you know what oil I need?
mk2
I use this stuff every 20k miles. Good lube. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121635277054 From memory gti boxes take 2.1L. Anyone confirm it?
Pringle
Thanks, the car hasn’t really been loved by the looks of it so I doubt that this has been changed frequently if ever over it’s life
