Furiokid
Hi, recently bought myself a little lupo gti as a daily whilst I'm restoring my beetle and have to say I love it, missed being in a little hot hatch again .Recently it's been playing up a bit. When I first bought it the starter motor was sticking and would stay engaged for a second when started which was annoying so I bought a new starter motor and got it sorted. Then recently found intermittently the engine turns over slowly or won't start, just the starter solenoid clicks, but if turn the key back and try again it'll slowly fire into life, so I bought a new battery and fitted it and seemed to be ok but now it's still doing it.Checked the connections to the starter, i.e earth, live and signal and all look ok.Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if there's common problems I should be aware of before I delve deeper?Cheers
Pete
I would say check your earths to the starter, corrosion can cause high resistance and a laboured crank.
Furiokid
Checked it, and cleaned it up to the starter, although need to trace it back to the body to see if it needs cleaning
carrera-gt
A common place for corrosion is the connector where the main battery cable from the boot comes into the engine bay. a simple test is to check the cranking voltage at both battery and starter ends.
