  1. Hi all, need to replace the front and rear wheel bearings on my Lupo. Any links and prices? Cheers, Luke
  2. Hi there, I need help with a very loud and distressing wheel speed noise. It's there wether in gear or not, only with the wheels turning. Clutching has no effect on it. It sounds, as far as I can tell (and a couple of different passengers) to be coming from the front passenger side wheel, with some vibration noticeable through the foot well. I've had the front up and listened with a Dowell while the wheels are driving, and the gearbox and drivers side knuckle make a kind of sshsshssh noise which I would associate with dry or very slightly worn bearings. While the passenger side knu
  3. Hi All, in need of some assistance, started getting a noise coming front my front left wheel. Hard to describe, it seems to happen once per turn and at low speeds sounds like the brakes are catching like a low squeak noise but as speed increases it gets higher pitched and sounds like a bird chirping. I had pads and discs changed, still the same noise, took it back to the garage they said it needed caliper retaining clips and some bushes £100 incl labour, left the garage noise still there. Took it back again, this time they said wheel bearing, £40 incl labour after I argued that id unnecessaril
  4. hey guys, my front wheel bearing is making a god awful racket. i think its the front passenger bearing. I've heard that changing them can be a bit of a job, is it better to replace the bearing or buy a new hub with the bearing already in? Also, if its easier to buy a hub, any ideas where from? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Adam Picture of the car if anyone is interested http://i.imgur.com/FkF2yq3.jpg
  5. Front hub, not sure which models lupo it fits as it was supplied incorrectly. I know it doesn't fit a tdi sport. Straight with good bearing, has abs mounting point and caliper bolt holes appear to be m7 threaded? £20 Birmingham
  6. Ok so the gearbox is pretty much finished after 122k miles, pretty sure it's the pinion bearing. Standard symptoms such as incredible whining noise in 3rd 4th and 5th. Need my car as quickly as possible so will replace first with cheap 1.4s box if I can't find a sport one quick enough. Then I will attempt to rebuild my sport box over the next few months then swap them out again. I won't swap the clutch because it was only changed about 20k miles ago but the release bearing is a little noisy so I wanted to swap that. Also the last time I had my gearbox out there is a metal sleeve that sits over
  7. so i knew i had an iffy front wheel bearing when i got my car back in august but due to cost i didn't replace it but gradually its got worse and worse then i hit a pot hole and then i could hear it over my music at volume 55 my speakers clip at 58 sub cuts out at 59 so yehh was very very loud and could feel it in pedals and was snatching the steering so i got the wheel bearing and after about an hour trying to get the c clip out then another 40 min pressing the old shell out this is what was making the noise so yehh got my moneys worth out of it just got the other side to do but have got to
  8. My GTI has developed a whirring noise, as in it goes "whir whir whir whir", as opposed to a constant whine. It's not a normal gearbox whine, as it makes the noise when coasting in neutral, but can only be heard at certain speeds. When you increase speed the pitch doesnt change, but the the spaces between the 'whirs' get closer together. It is more noticeable at lower speeds i.e. 30 below and different road surfaces seem to change the volume. It can be felt through the floor at certain speeds (when it's at its loudest) Now, if it were the gearbox, would the noise still be present in neatrual? T
