  1. I think you missed the point mate. ET50 will stand the wheels further inwards but spacers will undo this and push the wheels back outwards again (thus effectively lowering the offset again). I think we are trying to figure how far we can stand the wheels inwards (highest offset). The point being that then a wider wheel can be used before arch rubbing.
  2. To be honest I have not put a price on them as I am finding it tricky. The wheels are 4 years old but still retail at £170 each new. They have no curbing marks at all, are all totally straight and no laquer is lifting at all. Two front tyres have done 1000 miles (cost me £200) but the rears are ready to be replaced pretty soon. All have flush fit valves, VW centre caps (with inverted colours) and locking bolts. The downside is that all the wheels have marking on the rim from jobsworth tyre fitters who scuff the rim when removing old tyres. Been to numerous places and all seem incompetant! I personally think you would be pushed to notice the marks when the wheels are on the car but you can clearly see them when you look closely. £400 sound sensible, or an offer nearby?
  3. The car looks a treat in those snow pictures. I dont see much evidence of "playing" in all that unbroken snow...maybe you did that after the phots? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shades:" border="0" alt="shades.gif" /> Perhaps wind the front coilovers down a little to match the rear ride height?
  4. I only have problems with speed ramps and steep gradients like multi-storey carparks (though I dont leave it in carparks due to risk of dents). Had a moment last week on the A50 when I went through a sudden dip and heard a big scrape. Looked in mirror and there was a cloud of dust behind me so I assume it was the undertray bottoming out. Anyway, back at ya Jen...how do you daily drive and remain that clean? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  5. Robmarriot It was Rob that influenced me to get throttle bodies. Always wanted them and after going in his Corsa with them on I had to get some there and then. Adam It will be even lower when I get some 16's. Maybe taking the splitter off though and getting a more subtle one if I can find one.
  6. I can get about 5 litres in "using the button". Not all at once though, have to press-put about a litre in-press again-put another litre in etc. I must have a smaller fuel tank then style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> , 160 miles to a tank and 200 if I am lucky. 40-60 miles for the first quarter and that is just going steady on a motorway.
  7. If you want the car to be noticably lower, then 60mm (or more) definatelly. If you want the car to look like it should have done from the factory and have fantastic handling then go 40mm. Above all, make sure the shockers and springs are matched in tems of height and damping, otherwise you could well end up with worse handilng than standard...manufacturers dont spend lots of effort matching spring and damper rates for nothing.
  8. My 17's are 7" wide and ET45. The problem is that IF the hub of the wheel is quite bulky the wheels will not clear the caliper near the hub. I had to grind about 3-4mm from the back of every spoke on my front wheels to make them fit. The problem is the same with 256mm and 280mm front brakes but marginally better with the 280mm's as the caliper is further out radially.
  9. Not wanting to steam in and rival Gaz' offer but my 17's are also for sale shortly (as soon as I get my 16" wheel saga sorted out). Picture of wheels below. border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />
  10. Not been able to get on here this week as since the forum update I cannot log in on my work computer, only view as a guest! Many thanks for all the help everyone. Also thanks for the offer Tigz. I refuse to higher my car so it looks like ET20 is not going to be possible. I have moved things on slightly though now. Going to make some enquiries about a set of Borbet A a member on here has highlighted to me but also arranging to have a set of 16" x 7.5 ET35 Schmidt modern lines...not available I hear you say...well watch this space if the Borbets don't work out.
  11. Just given the car its first polish of 2007...and wound the coilovers down some more for the new year (like you do). border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />
  12. I am sure most of you know that I currently run 7x17" wheels on an ET45. For the last 2 weeks I have been trying desperatelly to buy new wheels but due to availability problems I am faced with having a smaller offset that I would ideally like and I think it will cause me problems with clearance. Am I likely to get 7.5x16" wheels on my gti with ET20? By my reconing: the ET will cause them to stick out a further 25mm than my 17's the extra width will cause them to stick out another 6mm if I drop to 195 tyres (from my current 205) that will give me 5mm extra clearance either side of the tyre So if I am not talking rubbish the wheels will stand out an extra 26mm. Based on the above and measurements from the car they wont fit...but...other on here have run 8" wide wheels and ET's lower than 20 and got away with it so maybe I am missing something?
  13. 190ish if I really try. 160 usually. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
  14. Should be able to come here, depending on weather I may run the car although I always change my mind once I have cleaned it.
  15. PMSL at the horse bit. Maybe I may add (for those with filthy minds) Horse = in fields/in burgers/porn
  16. Most tyre places do not repair when the puncture is too near the sidewall. What they define as "too near" I am not sure, I think it is usually only repaired if the puncture is in the middle 60-70% of the tread width. ******.
  17. I will be there...been planning for this since the last one. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  18. Each to their own and originality is great but if it were mine I would... 1. lower it (alot), 2. change the wheels, 3. change the rear lights, 4. change the exhausts and remove the sticker from the back bumper.
  19. Mine also came on when the spoiler brake light failed...many years ago.
  20. Just my 2p's worth regaqrding spark plugs. £11 each from VW. Identical NGK plugs from independant parts dealer (same NGK part number marked on the ceramic but without the black inked on VW/Audi badge on) £11 for all 4. I certainly would not have paid four times the price for 4 VW/Audi printed logos on the parts. Remember here, VW do not manufacture all the service components their vehicles require (as stated by Al earlier in the thread).
  21. I have a Gti throttle body (drive by wire) in perfect working order. Came off my car at 65,000 miles when I fitted my Jenvey ITB's. Not a clue what they are worth. £30 sound ok?
  22. Doh, my vulture like insticts need quickening it seems. Vdubgti Sorry I went off topic.
  23. Or I will buy your one if you no longer want it Joe.
  24. VDUBGTI If you change your mind about having it, I will come have a look at it and possibly buy it off you. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  25. Im a possibility too. I remember the meet Tigz' mentioned earlier in this thread. Me, him, Max and Twisty. We all went to The Bridge Inn then to the Goose at Gamston. IIRC Twisty left us behind on the big roundabout as he had just had his H&R's fitted...show-off style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
