  1. GTI FESTIVAL Santa Pod Raceway, Wellingborough, Northants. NN29 7XA Sunday 5th July Contact: 01279 72 52 52 www.vwaction.co.uk Welcome. So we are in recession. Worse than that, we are in the biggest slump since the great depression. What better reason can there be to get away from the rest of the world, and enter, even for a short time, the world of the 2009 GTI Festival. Thousands of like minded enthusiasts, traders, auto jumblers, club line-ups, and the best quarter mile dragstrip in Europe. For those of you who came to the GTI Spring Festival, we’re hoping to see you back at Santa Pod, because we assume that you, like us, must be serious VW enthusiasts. The GTI Spring Festival, in case you weren’t there set a new standard for the year, with the Show and Shine full to bursting, with a new record of 48 separate clubs in the club display areas (call 01279 72 52 52 to book yours now), and hundreds signing on to run on the track. We’d love to see similar numbers this weekend, because the clubs, sprinters, and show cars turning up in numbers really make for a special event. For many people the single biggest reason to come to the GTI Festival is the drag strip. For most of those people, it’s because for a single payment of £25 (or two runs at some other shows) they can run on the strip all day long. We don’t mind if you haven’t done it before. Just go to the signing on office with your driving licence, and say you haven’t run on the track before. They will be helpful. That’s a promise. You can also talk to the officials in the staging lanes. They will help you too. We don’t mind if you have a stock 1 litre Polo, or Lupo 3l. (or a Seat Arosa, come to that... all VAG family welcome). Your car is not too slow for you to have fun on the track. We don’t mind if you need help with the startline procedure, or even the timing lights explained. You will get the hang of it. Just don’t be bashful. It is fantastic fun, and a completely different experience inside the car. If you are considering entering the FREE Show & Shine (please do) be sure to get there early if you can. We endeavour to keep the area open until midday, but when it’s full, it’s full. We trialled a new system, awarding a Top 20 across all marques and models, and we are doing similarly this weekend. And a final note to anyone entering and not winning. Thank you all for showing your cars. There are cars highly worthy of trophies that unfortunately leave empty handed on occasion. There is no perfect system, but be assured, the quality of your cars has not passed us by. We will have some ‘Promoter’s Choice’ trophies at this and future events, which will be in addition to the Top 20 awards and awards for 'Best Paint', 'Best Engine' etc. Clubs need to call 01279 72 52 52 for club stands

  5. Hiya guys n gals Here’s our official blurb GTI SPRING FESTIVAL Santa Pod Raceway, Wellingborough, Northants. NN29 7XA.Sunday 29th March 2009 www.vwaction.co.uk The long winter lay off, last year’s weather, the economy... there has never been more reasons to blow away the winter cobwebs, give the recession the finger, and get your ass to Santa Pod Raceway for the GTI Spring Festival. This year is set to defy the economic trend, and just like every year before see record numbers of visitors. On the track, in the Show & Shine, and most of all, the Club Displays, the numbers just keep on increasing. The 2009 GTI Spring Festival is the show to showcase your club and attract new members. The 'GTI Spring Festival' is the 'Season Opener' amongst the major water cooled VW shows. It already exceeds the visitor numbers of the July 'GTI Summer Festival', which has been running for over 15 years! With Sprinting, Show & Shine, Clubs, Autojumble and Traders, it follows a simple formula... arrive, have fun, and go home. If you don’t run on the dragstrip yourself, you can relax and watch cars really being put through their paces at a facility purpose built to show them off. What better place to really appreciate James Hodson’s Golf for example. James regularly clocks mid 10 second quarter mile times at over 130mph, in his fully street legal, and street driven Golf. If at the 2009 event you see a Scirocco stage alongside James, it might just be Paul Jordan, in his 4WD Scirocco Storm, also capable of mid 10 second runs. If these cars, which can outgun most ‘supercars’, are just not quick enough for you, there’s always the Fireforce team. The Fireforce Jet Funny Car will be the one vehicle guaranteed to have most of the audience rushing track side the second it fires up for each demonstration pass, which is likely to be in the region of very low 6 second elapsed time and 300mph terminal speeds! The show itself offers all day sprinting for a single signing on fee, which is hugely popular. But don’t forget your driving licence (you cannot sign on for sprinting without it). The early season event sees many personal bests, which may be down to a combination of the 'track bite' glue sprayed on to the Santa Pod quarter-mile, and the very good air quality at this time of year. The timing equipment is accurate to within less than one thousandth of a second. The overall formula for this show is very simple, the major elements being the activity on the dragstrip and the Show & Shine. The Show & Shine is one of the best in the country, with in the region of 100 contestants. There is no charge for entry into the Show & Shine, and it is becoming a popular show at which to debut new or revamped cars after the winter lay off. Gates open at 8.00am with the sprint track open from 10.00am. There is plenty of opportunity to browse trade stands, check out the autojumble and club displays, as well as watch (or even try a few runs on) the dragstrip. Overseas visitors to the show will receive free admission on production of their ferry tickets/proof of travel, so perhaps we will see a few more European visitors this year.

  10. VW Action 2008 is set to be one of the most exciting VW shows in a very long time, and an event absolutely not to be missed. The move of VW Action to Santa Pod last year produced a show which was by common consent, one of the best VW Action events in recent memory. Make no mistake, the 2008 show will be epic! The show can only get better this year, as it continues its quest to defy the old adage that you can't please all of the people all of the time. VW Action is a show to which people are happy to bring their young family members, and yet which provides full on entertainment for all of its visitors, whatever their age or interests. We hear countless commendations from new visitors, and as much about the friendliness and hospitality of other show-goers as the quality of the show itself. In our view there is not a more entertaining and inclusive VW Show in the world. VW Action can be a weekend camped amongst like-minded enthusiasts, sitting, chilling, and meeting new friends, or one filled with live music from bands on the cusp of stardom, followed by the inimitable Jensen D Groover. Saturday night this year features live bands throughout the evening, followed by two hours of Disco entertainment, before the 'Great Pyjama Party Sleepover'. It won't actually go on all night, but it will be time enough to have some, 'popcorn and lemonade', and watch yet another showing of the greatest of all cult movies, 'American Graffiti'. VW Action 2007 delivered some of the best drag racing action at a VW show for years including VW night racing in the form of a repeat of the now legendary VW v V8 match-ups with the Outlaw Anglias and cars from the VWDRC, the most successful single make drag racing club in Europe. The dragstrip will once again host the BWA v USB (Busses With Attitude vs Ultimate Street Bays) and a huge number of drag racing VWs from the UK and Europe. The first VW event at a UK Dragstrip, the 1987 Bug Jam featured just four 'demo' cars, to give VW enthusiasts some idea of what drag racing was all about, but VW Action 2008 features another awesome array of the very fastest cars the sport has to offer. This has been made possible by the fact that VW Action is the week before the 'European Finals' , and a number of cars have taken the opportunity to get some testing in before they race in earnest the following weekend. There will be Top Fuel cars from across Europe, capable of running the quarter-mile in less than 5 seconds and at speeds in excess of 300mph. You will also be able to check out the Scandinavian Pro Stockers, the fastest 'doorslammers' around, and many other full-on V8 drag racers, testing for the next weekend. Throughout Sunday you will be able to test and tune your own car on the dragstrip, during the 'run what you brung' (RWYB) sessions, just remember to bring your driving licence. (There is an additional signing on fee to take part in this activity) There is also an exciting night time session on the Saturday night. This is by invite only so if you have a water-cooled car running quicker than 14.99 then let us and and you may find yourself running in one of the most exciting race sessions this year!! VW Action has always been at the forefront of Show 'N' Shine/Concours events. For many years Action has been a leader, not a follower. A few years ago, the show broke with the tradition of a class based structure, for one simple reason. Too many great cars were leaving without a trophy, especially in the most hotly contested classes. The 'Top Twenty' format at Action has now been taken up by many other shows, as it is the means by which the greatest number of worthy cars are rewarded with a trophy. The scale of the VW Action Show 'N' Shine however, means that there are separate 'top twenty' prizewinners for Air Cooled and Water Cooled cars. The Show 'N' Shine Concours takes place on Sunday, with Saturday being reserved for the 'Everyday Vehicle Concours' a trailer queen free zone, exclusively for cars which see regular use on the road. None of the show car competitions at VW Action have an entry charge, so if your car attracts admiring glances, be sure to enter in the appropriate free Show 'N' Shine competition. So, if you are visiting Action to show or race your car, to spend the weekend with fellow VW enthusiasts, to trade or buy parts, to party, or even all of the above, click on the buttons and check out the website to get more detailed information about elements of the show which is shaping up to be the best VW event of modern times, VW Action 2008 at Santa Pod Raceway, Friday 29th to Sunday 31st August 2008.
