  1. Can you add me please Gamer tag = reme101 Thanks
  2. There will be a 9.1% difference from your current size down to your new size - however if we take your speedo to be set simmilar to mine it will give you a 13.38% difference. my speedo reads 2.9% over. Add that to the 13.38% difference gives you a 16.28% over speed reading, so at an indicated speed of 70mph you will actually be travelling at 58.6mph. Great for not getting caught by speed cameras but rubbish for fuel economy.
  3. Factory fit tyre sizes. My wifes 1400 s has the same size. How did you get your results??
  4. 7. Nice vid, just goes to show that hid's shouldnt pass a mot !!
  8. Because its illegal to sell them for road use and to fit them for road use. And just because you don't think you you will get caught is not a reason to fit them. I could steal your car take it to a garage then strip it for parts and I don't think I would get caught - I know its illegal but I'm not going to get caught so does that make it right?? Just because you can do something doesnt mean you should "its not going to harm anyone" isn't reason either!
  9. If only that were true I was a car tester for 7 years before I joined VOSA and I thought the standards were not high enough then, when I joined VOSA and started testing trucks and coaches the minimum standard is FRIGHTENINGLY LOW for example you can have 10mm of lateral play on a king pin before it fails. 9.5mm of movement on both king pins on a truck weighing 42000kg travelling at 56mph is OK???? I think not. Don't even get me started on the amount of foreign trucks on our roads. Not even 1% of the trucks coming into this country get checked at the docks. Any way rant over. I like this forum, there is a lot of usefull information on here and the banter seems ok too.
  10. John, I'm not slagging you or your product off. I'm trying to educate you and anyone else who reads this post. I have not been personal in anyway. I am giving information so that an informed choice can be made. Anyone who had purchased a HID kit in ignorance of the law would be a little put out to find criminal proceedings against them from an over zealous crown employee. Ignorance is not a defence in court. Below is an extract from the terms and conditions of this site. Discouraged Behaviour * Club Lupo discourages the use of “text speak” although forum abbreviations are acceptable. * Please be aware that many members view this site from computers which may be monitored - Club Lupo requests that members be conscious of this and mark any questionable threads clearly in the title as being “Not Safe for Work” (NSFW). * Club Lupo discourages behaviour that is dangerous or illegal whether perceived or actual. Yes I do love my job, I am working to make the roads safer for everyone. Currently I am an SVA Officer and you wouldn't judge me if you had seen some of the truly horrific vehicles that people build and import.
  11. I would love a pair - however as a Vehicle Examiner for VOSA it would be a bit hypocritical of me to fit them. But thanks for the offer......
  12. For Information I have high lighted certain pertinent points In the Department's view it is not legal to sell or use after market HID lighting kits, for converting conventional Halogen headlamps to HID Xenon. If a customer wants to convert his vehicle to Xenon HID he must purchase completely new Xenon HID headlamps. The reason for this is that the existing lens and reflector are designed around a Halogen filament bulb, working to very precise tolerances. If one places a HID "burner" (bulb) in the headlamp, the beam pattern will not be correct, there will be glare in some places and not enough light in other places within the beam pattern. The following is the legal rationale: The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 regulate the situation in the UK. Under these Regulations, HID/Gas Discharge/Xenon headlamps are not mentioned and therefore they are not permitted according to the strict letter of the law. However new vehicles have HID headlamps. This is because they comply to European type approval Regulations. The UK cannot refuse to register a vehicle with a European type approval. These are to ECE Regulation 98 (for the HID headlamps which are tested on a rig in a laboratory) and ECE Regulation 48 (Lighting Installation on the vehicle). For the after market, a used vehicle cannot obtain type approval because it is only applicable for new vehicles. However we feel that saying "HID is banned in the after market" would not be reasonable. Instead we should make analogies with new vehicles. It would be reasonable to require HID in the after market to meet the same safety standards as on new vehicles. The same level of safety should apply. Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the after market should: 1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component. 2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place). 3. Comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned. In practice this means: 1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory. 2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam. 3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp. Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal. In summary it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above. If you require any further information regarding the regulations covered by this fact sheet, please contact the DfT at the address below: Transport Technology and Standards 6 Department for Transport Zone 2/04 Great Minster House 76 Marsham Street London SW1P 4DR Telephone: 020 7944 2078 Fax: 020 7944 2196 Email: TTS.enquiries@dft.gsi.gov.uk
  13. No VOSA doesnt set the standards for the MOT, current legislation does and the MOT is a BASIC test. The headlamp test consists of "is it fitted, does it work, is it a matched pair, is the beam pattern correct. And rules are to be broken or these kits wouldnt be available??
  14. Its a dog, don't do it. You know deep down its a dog. It will be a dog to drive, a dog to repair, a dog to put fuel in and a dog to park anywhere and leave it unattended!!
  15. Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade - but as far as i know unless your car has HID's fitted from the factory you cant legally fit them and although mr plod doesnt know his arse from his elbow VOSA does. The reason you need AUTOMATIC SELF ADJUSTING HEADLAMPS is so you don't blind anyone a WASHER SYSTEM is because any dirt on your headlamp will create a hot spot and render your headlamps useless HEADLAMPS APPROVED FOR HID'S is if they were not designed for them ITS A GOOD REASON TO NOT FIT THEM. So just to clarify IF YOUR CAR WASNT FITTED WITH THEM FROM THE FACTORY IT IS ILLEAGLE TO RETRO FIT THEM. stand back and wait for the backlash
