Then I want to get rid of the Tim/Tom interior so on the look out for some Golf Recaro's in red/black, then its time for some wheels in a couple of months (as the Mrs wont let me now as we are looking to move house shortly!) Probably look at a remap eventually too. As you know I've had a few!! but seeing as you insist, heres a couple (well only ones I've got pics of on my PC) my old 1.8t Golf my old 1.8t Passat sport. shitty Mk2 Gti T3 Whitestar multivan and finally my old 2180cc '66 Bug (that I wish I never sold ) cheers, Chris.

  19. Only applies to Watercooled VW's. Beetles were never officially known as a "Beetle" it was just a nickname that stuck. Type1 - "beetle" Type2 - camper / transporter Type3 - Squareback / Notchback / Fastback Type4 - 2/4 door saloon /estate replaced by the K70. Scirocco- Hot North African desert wind that blows into Italy Original name was rumored to be Blizzard. Golf - Gulf stream winds (a high altitude North-south 100 mmph wind) Jetta - Jet stream (East/West wind, affecting Pacific air travel) Passat - Trade winds Vento - Blowing/windy (E/I) Polo - The Polo name has been a source of speculation. Some people believed it was a reference to polar winds, in keeping with Volkswagen's penchant for naming its watercooled cars after winds and currents, but many fans insist that it is in fact a pun on the Golf's name, because "golf" and "polo" are both words (in both English and German) for upper-class sports. The fact that the Polo's original saloon derivative was named the Derby gives more credence to the latter theory, since derby, like polo, refers to an equestrian sport. Santana - Hot desert blast accross the Sea of Cortez. Corrado - Not a wind, it's derived from Spanish Correr which means to run. The original name for the car was Taifun (Typhoon) which means huricane except it was already a registered trade mark for a GM truck.
  20. just been getting a TDi, and it hasnt got a glovebox. Noticed the GTi's do, so is it an easy swop to convert my non glovebox dash to a glove boxed one. cheers, Chris.
  21. Had the starter motor "whine" on my TDi, its the solenoid not disengageing in time. Apparantly this is a common fault on later dubs. Had a few cars do it now! Took my starter off, whipped the solenoid off and gave it a good clean. Now as good as new. Took about 40 mins in total to do! cheers, Chris.

  23. Chris-W

    Hi.

New to the club and thought it only right to introduce myself! My name is Chris and I live in Bishop Auckland, up in the North East. Had a dub of one description or another since I passed my test 15 years ago (cue previous car list!! ) 5xMK1 Gtis, 5xMk2 Gtis, 1xMk3 Gti, 71 Bay camper, Golf Rallye, '66 Beetle 2xCorrado (16v&Storm), *cough* Impreza *cough*, 1xMk4 1.8t, Passat 1.8t, T25 Whitestar Multivan. Just sold this.... and needed something cheap and cheerful to get to work and back in until I find my next victim (sorry Project) so decided to keep it VW and obviously the Lupo was the perfect choice! (Chris260 I blame you ) so therefore last week I picked this up from a local garage.... Its a TDi sport and totally stock for now. Plans were to keep it that way and buy myself another project (fancy a Derby or Polo Classic if anyone knows of one cheapish??) but I think the little Lupo is going to be tickled with the modding stick shortly!! anyways, thats my life story over with, so Hi to everyone and especially those up here in the NE, as there seems to be a few of us on here. (any local meets at all??) cheers, Chris.
