  1. It varies from car to car, it depends on how much the car flexes in the first place. I dunno about the loop!.
  2. I'm an Alpine man myself, for sheer sound quality, nothing beats an Alpine setup for Head unit and multichanger. My boot install should be pretty much finished this evening, just needs trimming in acoustic carpet. It's gonna be loud! 8 speaker and 900w sub, bring it on! Pics shortly!
  3. Supersprint would be a good one, but A: They already do one, and B: They're in Italy! Could pose a slight problem!
  4. The best way to build and exhaust for performance gains is to build it with the use of a dyno, hence the reason BTB wanted £750 = vat and 5 days to make me an exhaust. Hence also, why scorpion need my car for five days when they build me my free exhaust. You can get power gains from powerflows, pot luck though really, theres a chance you'll get a drop in power/torque as well! Low down torque requires back pressure in the system. Depends whether you want low down grunt/good `mid-range` or good top end?!?!
  5. I wouldn't normally get an off the shelf system, but my car goes up to Scorpion on the 6th sept to be used as a development car i.e. free exhaust for me and the first one! I'm on holiday while its there so i won't be able to report anything til around the 23rd or 24th. I love a good freebie!
  6. That looks very tasty! Maybe i should scrap the project idea and save for one of those and get a 100 quid mini! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  7. They very rarely glow red hot. 160bhp wouldn't be over strssing the engine at all. I would imagine its the same block as a 1.8t. I'm sure it will be happy with over 200bhp! You can still get a lot of the same problems with an SC if its not done properly. Where are planning on gettin it from?
  8. A lot of cars have their intercoolers mounted in front of the rad, cars like Evo's and imprezza's. An intercooler won't bring your under bonnet temperatures down either. It'll cool the intake charge to the engine therefore making the air denser meaning more oxygen, meaning more boost! Its the turbo itself that will increase the underbonnet temperature, if you wrap this with heat wrap, along with manifold you shouldn't have a problem. A super charger wont really generate any extra heat. If you want to put a turbo in an already cramped engine bay you're gonna have to make some compromises i.e. bonnet vents! An oil cooler wouldn't be a bad idea either! After market turbo conversions are fine so long as they're done by people who know what they're doing, and driven by people who understand the physics of an engine and forced induction and don't go playing around with the boost settings i.e. putting too much boost through the engine without altering the compression ratio.
  9. The kits or TSR? I find TSR themselves to be pretty good, dunno about the kit though, its a nightmare tryin to get hold of a VW mag round here, so if anyones tested one i wouldn't have a clue!
  10. Touring cars use em cos they're `full-on` sequential boxs like a bike would have, not some conventional box with loads of slow electonics and actuators to change the gears, althoug they're getting better apparently

    Induction kit - gti

The air `in-take` draws air from behind the arch liner through a hole i can just about get three fingers through! Its sealed from the vent in the bumber by a big bit of polystyrene. If you disconnect the pipe thats connected to the airbox by two screws you get a pretty good induction roar, its just that the intake temp is a bit higher.

Put the intercooler in front of the radiator, simple as that. Super charger or turbo, either will be tight. I'd go for a s/c!
  13. The £1500 for a citroen will be from GMC, its for the kit only and you have to fit it yourself, they go up to about 4k for a conversion with a charge cooler and oil cooler and water injection. Theres a VTS at the mo running with 255bhp at the flywheel, only problem is, after a while it rips a hole in the standard gearbox casing due to all the torque! Stealth systems get all their parts n superchargers from GMC. Having said that, GMC say that they'll convert any car. Their conversions are some of the most reliable you'll find, the only problems they've had is with the superchargers themselves which are by another company called rotrex, even then they're pretty reliable. Try GMC here

    Big Brakes

Thankyou very much, it would be much appreciated! Also, those hose you had made, did you have to supply them standard hoses as a template for them to make them, or just a length? Have i tempted you with the Exhaust yet?

    Big Brakes

I know ATE is a firm, but i can't find anyone who stocks their products, i'd also quite like the Brembo discs. Finding parts for a Lupo in the UK is a feckin nightmare style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> Whats it like on your side of the water? Were the pads DS2000?

    Big Brakes

I know that uprating the pads n discs will help a lot but a friends saxo has a 283mm big brake upgrade and i want that sort of stopping power. We're both going to the same track day, my acceleration is slightly better (although i'll strip it out for the track day) his cornering speed is slightly higher (despite the koni coilovers) although having some seats by then should even it up. The place he's gonna make it up is on braking, theres quite a lot of heavy braking from high speeds (100mph+ right down to 4o or so). Put it this way, i need to lap faster than him or i'll never hear the end of it, its only a VTR! I will not lose! I find that my ABS cuts in far too early, it doesn't take much effort for me to get it to cut in, even in the dry when its hot! Any chance you could get me some of those hoses, i'll pay good money for them! Those ferodo pads, are they DS2000's? Anyone know where i could get some ATE power discs from? I want, no, i NEED Lupo cup car brakes, i need them!

    17's - No way!

As i said in a previous post, on a GTI 205/40 17's fit without a problem. We tried it again the other day and got people bouncing up and down on the back and they didn't rub at all (it was close though) and bear in mind that mines lowered about 45mm all round, so long as they're the right offset (more or less) it should be fine. The side wall on a 225/45 is gonna be quite a bit bigger than a 205/40 (about 19mm overall) I know what you mean about the handling issue, I really like Superleggera's which is a bit of an advantage cos a 17'' superleggera weighs a little bit less than any other wheel in a 16''. You could always get 17's and put the old wheels back on for when you wanna give the loop a good thrashing at track days and `b-road` blasts. Still can't make up my mind though!

    Big Brakes

Just spoken to TSR and they say i need new calipers and carriers, looking at around £350 all in including discs, i think i'll give the scrap yard a try on saturday and try a few of my mates with golfs.

Has anyone fitted 280mm discs yet? I'm desperate for them!
  20. As for the price of turbo conversions, i don't know what AMD quote for power increase but the reason they're more expensive could be that they're lowering the compression ratio of the engine which means either a full (low compression pistons) or part (changing or using two head gaskets) strip down of the engine. I would imagine that 160 bhp that TSR quote is the max you can run on standard compression before you start to suffer from detonation. I may be wrong, but thats the most likely reason, the raw parts for the conversion are the same so a lot of it is probably the extra labour cost involved in the engine strip down.
  21. When i was fitting my `coil-overs` the camber was way out (like 20 degrees out!) i called Koni and they put me onto TSR, they were really helpful, despite that fact that i hadn't bought them from there. As with any company there will be good and bad opinions, for example Demon Geeks with my last car, i don't think i had one order come through that was right first time round whereas other people swear by them. TSR definately know their stuff when it comes to VAG products, regardless of whether thei service may be good or bad.
  22. I want something a bit more meaty and i wanna `de-cat` it aswell, you can't beat a bit of pop, a spit and a burble. Not sure if the old one will be usable, might have to be cut off!
  23. A bit of compound charging, you don't see much of that, Lancia Delta S4 anyone!??!?!? Lush!
  24. Dunno, its a while since i was last up there. Thwy'va always got something pretty rad in the pipeline!
  25. I haven't had a look but chances are that you'll need to remove the bumper to get to some of the brackets. ???
