  1. Sorry Rich ? I'll try harder next time lol ?
  2. Lol Rich ? Thanks cj1 I found the code... parts are on their way! New cat and 02 sensor for me ? You've all been great help, nice one guys, thank you! ?
  3. Haha! Unfortunately I'll have to burst your bubble... I'm not single ? still up for advising me on my car though? ?? Just checked booklet etc. I will check on the car when I can get there. Starting to think is it worth just paying their price ? thougg at least I'll know exactly which one it is ? lol
  4. ?? a MK1 Golf, Rich ? Been looking at 02 sensors, not sure what engine code mine is. How do I find out? Have found 3 different sensors from my reg. Different codes on all, though AUC is on all 3 too ? I'm just casually trying to keep costs down by finding a cheaper one than what I've been quoted ?
  5. After 2 years of ownership I should really know my car better.. but this is my little cheap runner whilst saving to work on another car ?
  6. Hahaha! In my 20s...nearing the end of them anyway ? Yes I've decided to do just that Rich! I thought maybe chuck the straight pipe in place of the centre box. Would that make enough noise too? I am tempted to replace the back box. Though only had a new one 6 months ago ?
  7. ? yes I am female! I've been told it's due to the 02 sensor. So adding it back in to the straight pipe still may not work... and also been advised a rag won't work in my situ (due to the fact it's the main 02 sensor being absent, not the one by manifold). I may bite the bullet and replace with a new cat - and have the straight pipe replace the centre box instead. I'm used to louder cars, the Arosa has a very quiet engine so I stall as can't hear the revs ?? I usually claim it's because I'm a woman driver though, I can use that to my advantage sometimes lol ?
  8. ? thanks for the replies! I shall try and work some magic myself, flutter my eyelids and all that jazz ?
  9. Thank you for your replies everyone ?I will see what I can do! The fact it's only just failing by a smidge is a pain lol. No other holes in my exhaust system either ?
  10. Thanks Sausage I'll see if I can do that! Lol I'm not sure if I can ? I was kinda hoping that they could do that lol. An annoying little thing stopping it pass... sods law ? Thanks for your replies guys!
  11. Hi guys, I have a 1ltr Arosa. I squished my cat on a speed bump ages ago, I've not been able to afford a new cat so I put a straight pipe in it's place. I therefore had the 02 sensor cut out for the time being. As my car has an engine management light because of it, I was hoping having that deleted would help it through MoT (lol). It just wont go through emissions by literally 1 or 2 numbers! Anyone have any ideas how to sort or if anyone has had a straight pipe in place with no issues? I'm thinking I may have to replace it with a new cat with the 02 sensor back in it, and maybe remove centre box and have the straight pipe there (for noise, otherwise I over rev then hear the car LOL) But this is obviously a more costly way. I wanted a sports cat but couldn't find one for it! Had sports cats before with no issues. It's currently waiting to go back in for re-test soon as I can think of the cheapest way for me (unfortunately). Thanks
  12. I have the same issue, I've wondered whether it's just a sensor or something, but it is a bit annoying so I'd like to find out too!!
  13. Hi guys, sorry in advance for the lack of understanding with this! I have a head unit already in my car, wired up to the sub and amp. I have another head unit I want to replace this with, so I have a couple of questions... Firstly, I'm not sure where to find the amp fuse to remove it before I start lol. I'm not really sure what I'm meant to be looking for. My other car has the fuse within the wiring at the battery end... I've found a yellow fuse (lol) I assume in my first pic, that is the one I need to remove?... Last question, In the last pic, is this my remote cable? I've never cut and re wired anything before!! I assume the wires that are already wired up to my current head unit will have the same looking remote wire? Thanks guys
  14. Hi everyone! Sorry for my late reply, I have finally got it sorted! I've had the shaft selector seal replaced, and fresh oil. The whining has gone for now, so hoping the new oil has sorted that lol... Turns out my problem with selecting gears was the linkage bushes. They had gunked up big time! He has cleaned it all up for now and we are going to see how they go, otherwise I will have those replaced too. It feels lovely to drive! I've really missed driving it to be honest lol. Thanks again for all of your help, lovely bunch!
  15. Thanks dude Not a TDI unfortunately lol. Are there any gearbox parts that are uprated/aftermarket and stronger rather than replacing with bog standard parts? I don't want to have to keep replacing bearings etc every so often lol. I've also been told the 1.4 box fits too... are these boxes stronger than the 1ltr petrols? Thanks all!!!
  16. Haha cheers for your reply dude! I wonder if the 1.4 gearbox may be stronger, I haven't seen anyone really complain much about the 1.4 boxes (though that's not what ive been looking for so may well be the same and I just haven't read that lol) I looked for months for a diesel arosa first, I researched for months and learnt they are definitely a preferred option!! But the price for a decent one with a million miles on the clock was way above my budget sadly lol Ideally I would like to uprate the parts in the gearbox without having to pay to have the box taken out, sent off, refurbished etc.... and a second hand box would be a chance to take, and may be just as crap lol. Im very surprised there isn't much that can be uprated on the arosa as a whole? I'm not looking to engine swap on mine, just hopefully make the gearbox stronger so it lasts to be honest lol If its worst case scenario and the box has had it, I know ill just have to replace the box. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible before my mechanic takes a look, so whatever the condition is, I can decide what to have done there and then, and get the job done and sorted quicker Also....I found a gearbox thread on here last week and asked what box is in mine, I was told mine is an 085, but have also read on other peoples comments it could be an 02j EXB. I guess I could just call my local Seat dealership and quote my reg and they can tell me? I really appreciate all your help on here! You are all a nice bunch
  17. I would call the Financial Ombudsman, they will advise you who you can call to help get your head around what they are saying and why. If it turns out they are trying to pull a fast one (and lets be honest, what are the chances!!) you could possibly even get what you deserve, and quite rightly, pay for!! It's probably down to the insurances underwriters. They are usually the ones who make it difficult! I personally would record everything they are saying, and ask for it all to be emailed, not through telephone, as then you have hard proof what they say to you... we all know if someone lies, they get found out eventually... always get the name of who you speak to, as well as the date and time of every phone call if you do speak to them over the phone. The Financial Ombudsman have a really good team working for them! It may sound daunting, but I have dealt with them in the past about car insurances. They are so helpful. If whatever they advise you doesn't work for you once you have tried, they do have the power to step in, depending on circumstances. This to me, sounds like yet another company who are just simply trying to get out of paying. Bar stuards!! Possibly because you also have injuries. They will try and drag anything out as the longer things are left unsolved, they have more of a chance of succeeding (either you will give up, or your injuries will be healed so no proof) I would also suggest go to the doctor and collect any medical evidence you can, and a letter from your doctor stating what injuries and why. In my opinion, they can't get away with this, it's downright cruel and unfair to us who pay our way and do it all properly! Don't give up dude Also (lol) did you get photos of the other car involved?
  18. Thank you all I will have my mechanic check the diff and output shaft bearings! Whilst he's there, are there any other things I should ask him to check just to make sure? I was hoping my problem was down to gear linkage or something lol! Also, are there any other cars or Arosa models that have stronger gearboxes that would fit? I'm not so keen on a replacement box second hand or maybe even brand new if they are made poor, to be honest! I know they are cheap to run, just didn't expect to be having to sort the gearbox out Thanks again all!
  19. Sorry to hear and see about your bad luck!! Hopefully things will look up for you! Have you got the value of your car set higher than this insurance company is saying its worth? I'm not too clued up on insurance companies, though we all know they will get away with murder if possible!! I'm wondering if Citizens Advice would be able to help, or a similar sort of organisation to do with motor vehicles? Good luck mate!
  20. Thank you for your replies all ironically I'm currently sat here eating chocolate whilst I read your replies.... lol. I'm really hoping I can have the parts replaced rather than buying a new gearbox! I'd like to drive it but I'm not 100% sure if its best to at the moment? I presume the pedal is sitting where it should, its about the same height as the other pedals
  21. Hi all, I have a 53 plate mk2 Arosa. I sometimes struggle to get my car into gear, other times its lovely. Reverse is particularly fiddly! My mechanic took the gaiter off and had a look inside. It all looks like its moving fine at the bottom, and nothing looks out of place. We wondered if the problem is where the stick moves through the structure near the top? Is this a common fault? It's a 1ltr petrol. I've also noticed a whine over the past couple of weeks or so, which speeds up with acceleration and slows down when I do, so I assume that's gearbox related? The whine isn't too loud but enough to notice. Also, my clutch seems to have a stiff point about half way down with the occasional squeak. Any help would be appreciated!
  22. My was, rolling restoration. Now, awaiting more restoration work
  23. Thanks all! I like the red BBS too, they were on the car when I bought it! They will probably be my winter shoes because they are a bit scruffy at the moment, though may re-furbish in the summer My plan originally was to part with my *cough* civic, and have the arosa as a cheap runner so I can save mainly to move in with my partner, hopefully with a garage or some sort of cover to store the Golf and to restore it! BUT... I may have a gearbox problem on the Arosa.... gotta love cars
