  1. Note: why I am asking these seemingly rehashed questions is due to the fact that despite owning a 6er from 2002 my mate has a 5er from 01 (same spec in every other way) and his is always faster - even when we swap cars. Its faster off the lights and faster to 100mph. Both cars have pretty much the same mileage 75ks. So why does everyone harp on about the 6 being SOOOO much better when ultimately there is nothing in it and from what I have experienced the 6 is actually a bit slower? Or is it simply that cool factor of the 6?
  2. I guess this speed comparison between the two proves my point. For example the 5spd box is faster/ same as the 6er when taking into account 3 vs 4 4 vs 5 etc. I know it sounds pedantic just trying to shed another angle on the much debated subject. So from what I see the 5er is just as quick and is cheaper to buy - win win!
  3. FYI what I am trying to gather together is the supposed faster times of the 6spd box that it registers over the 5spd box in the mid range. From what I can see is that in short the two boxes are not comparable ie 3rd to 3rd. What needs to be compared is the times of for example the 3rd gear of the 5er to the 4th of the 6 box. This make sense?
  4. Hi Matt, did you ever find out the ratios for the 5spd GTI box? I can't find them anywhere. Thanks
  5. Hi there I am looking for the same info. Lots of details about the 6spd box but can't find any details about the 5. Anyone know?
  6. Hi Will do still have the wheel arches from your GTI for sale. Thanks
  7. Hi there has anyone experience this: when changing gears, for around a second, the revs remain high or where they were when upon change. So at 3000rpm I´ll change into say 3rd gear and in the time that it takes me to make the change, the trottle remains at this rpm despite the clutch being engaged. Any ideas? Thanks
  8. Mine is a Spanish reg and it does not have a computer
  9. Hi all I have a 5spd LHD GTI. Whilst in reverse gear (pulling out of the garage or parking), I am experiencing 2 distinct sounds. The first from the right front is a knocking and the second is from the front left a juddering. The car drives perfectly with no pulling and I just had the right wheel bearing replaced so no play whatsoever, neither rocking of the wheel nor rolling it forwards/ backwards any play. I live in Spain so it is always in the dry Has anyone experienced this? Could the knocking be a CV joint and the judder alignment? Thanks for your help
  10. Hi all, Greetings from sunny southern Spain. Just picked up my first Lupo GTI. Although been a owner of Mk1 and Mk3 Golf GTIs never even sat in a Lupo before. Then out of the blue I spotted a 2002 with only 60k on the clock and took the plunge. Just like my old Mk1, puts a smile on my face…
