  1. Yeah its free. Just ring up and ask if you can book you car in for a free suspension safety check. When you get there tell them the issue and I'm pretty sure they'll find it. Lowered cars should be ok, its no different to driving onto a ramp. http://www.kwik-fit.com/about-suspension.asp
  2. Alternatively take it to Kwikfit (yeah seriously). They have a machine which shakes your car while they check for noises underneath in the inspection pit. They diagnosed ARB bushes on my ST220 (and where correct) when two other garages told me it was the wishbone bush. You really can't go wrong, its free and you are under no obligation to get the work done. The mechanic actually told me to get them fitted elsewhere because it would be cheaper.
  3. Strange thread! Why would you want to drive around with something on the roof rack, waste fuel?
  4. If it knocks over bumps then its most likely ARB bushes, I'd change those first as they should be the cheapest to replace.
  5. Are you sure you don't need to just tighten the bolt up that holds the two hinges together? I thought I needed a new hinge but my knowledgeable local garage informed me that they rarely need replacing, but often need tightening up as they come loose. Sure enough they were right.

I'm almost there. They said they'd be ordering it from TPS with the part number I gave them, so it should be the correct one. I'm not giving up now!
  7. Pete is right, less than 30mm is fine.

I doubt theres much chance finding a used GTI screen in good condition, plus you'd need to get it fitted. I did think about buying one from VW but as Lupogtiboy says, it would cost a bomb compared to going through your insurance. My excess is £95 with Adrian Flux, rip off or what.
  9. That could well be your problem, 50mm is a lot. You'll never find a factory spec sport variant lowered that much over a standard car because comfort is still a priority.
  10. I'm pretty sure wheels protruding from the arch that much are illegal.
  11. That is some offensive camber, isn't the handling shocking?

I will definitely be checking it to make sure its the right one mate, after I've made the monkey check it at the depot over the phone just to rub it in that he was wrong after all. They are absolutely useless!! I loved the "I've been in this job 23 years and I've never fitted glass that thin" comment. Oh right. So there are roughly 34.6 million cars on UK roads, and only 822 of them are Lupo GTi's, so the chances of you fitting a windscreen to one is roughly 0.0023%, yet you know more about them than I do. Yeah ok.

He called back and said he'd spoken to the parts department and they'd said the part number was only for GTI's, 3L's, and FSI's like I/we said. He then went on to say how he assures me it won't be 3.9mm thick, it will be 6.1mm thick, but he will order it anyway I'll make sure I get in touch with him before its due to be fitted, get him to measure the glass then apologise to me for insisting he was right Thanks for your help

I will do mate. I've also just spoken to my local VW parts department who said they'd speak to him and confirmed that the part number I gave them is only fitted to GTI's, 3L's, and FSI's, not the whole range like the monkey was telling me. He went as far to say they wouldn't even fit 3mm glass to the side windows, I'm about to make him sound stupid and his 23 years experience invalid. I hate being told I'm wrong when I know I'm not....

Is there anyone on here that works for VW that I could get this monkey from Auto Glass to contact to put him straight on the wind screen situation because he doesn't believe me. He's giving me the old, I've been doing this for 23 years BS and apparently he's never fitted a screen that thin

Standard screen is 5 mm thick, GTI screen is 3mm thick, same as the rest of the glass. I'm not getting anywhere. He just rang back and told me that there is no way that the glass is 3mm thick.

I'm slowly getting there, kind of. The bloke who rang just told me by law front windscreens had to be 6.1mm thick and there is no way it will be 3mm thick. I gave him the part number for the GTI screen, and the standard screen and told him to phone VW directly and ask them himself. Got to love being told you're wrong when you know you are right lol
  18. I'm having a right nightmare with this. I've found the thread with the part number and quoted it to Autoglass. They were adamant I was wrong and that the GTI doesn't have a 3mm screen and the only thing that mattered was that it was tinted green. So I phoned Adrian Flux who put me through to another glass company, they did exactly the same!! What do I have to do to get a 3mm OE green tinted windscreen fitted to my GTI?
  19. Taken yesterday on my iPhone 4s Goslings by J@yK@y, on Flickr
  20. That is pretty damn good but personally think it'd look even better without the white halo.
  21. Thanks Silver, they look pretty good, I'll keep those in mind. Good site too! Edit: Sh*t the bed, £180 per shock, I thought that was per pair!
  22. I don't think standard shocks are the same as GTI.
  23. Who makes them, Bilstein, Sachs or neither? Cheers.
  24. My mate has a Stilo JTD (awful car!) with an indiction kit fitted. It sounds nasty and I can hear him coming from a mile off. I don't think it made it any quicker though.
  25. I bought a silicone t piece so I could re-route the breather to just before the throttle body like its supposed to be (instead of having a filter stuck on the end), but it runs so much better with the standard set up I'm not going to bother. A quick Google reveals it is apparently a common trait small engined cars with induction kits fitted, I'm still not sure why though. Sixth paragraph; http://www.torquecars.com/tuning/induction-kit-intro.php I have a Carbonio CAI kit fitted to my Corrado VR6 and that doesn't lose power, if anything it feels slightly quicker throughout the rev range.
