  1. A mate of mine has a set of good 195/45/15s that he wants to swap for good 165/50/15s. Whereabouts are you?
  2. *reports user for epic failure in choice of phone.
  3. If the bags I bought had fitted, I'd have been looking at about £550 for the full kit once plumbed and finished. I sold the lot that I had for about £400, 4 brand new bags, valves, compressor and tank and made money. Would have fitted straight on something like a golf. Now on a mk1 escort. There are air cylinders now available that are very narrow, and work like an upturned damper, with the chamber pressurized. They take about double the pressure to achieve the same "spring rate" but are much smaller and will easily fit in the strut. To fit these to a lupo you'd need to drill two holes in the bracket supplied at the bottom of the strut to bolt it to the hub carrier, and make a plate to get it to work with the VW top mounts. The rears on a Lupo are doable with a standard bag if you can find a fairly narrow one, alternatively just run an air cylinder in place of the stock damper providing the mounts are up to it (Doesn't the Gti run like this anyway?)
  4. The indicators are glued with a proper glue that doesn't come undone with heat - well mine were. I had them in the oven for ages and they actually started to melt before they would come apart. I think you have to cut the indicators apart and then glue them back together with silicon or something, but don't quote me!
  5. It's an easy DIY job, and you can pick your own colour
  6. Avoid Drivemaster disks. Cheap, but I've cracked two sets in 6 months. EuroCarParts or GSFcarparts will give reasonable over the shelf prices. You should also really put a new set of pads in when replacing disks, but it should come to under £40 all in. I think I paid something like £22 for the lot with trade discount, but they were really the cheapest crap available.
  7. £250 isnt that bad of a price for it, its an absolute lovely person of a job. I'd MUCH rather change the engine again than change the pedalbox again, so fiddly, awkward and an all round pain.
  8. I want to report this post now. It's like a big red "do not press" button!
  9. Clutch cable, release bearing or more than likely the pedalbox has snapped - Very common on lupos. Have a look up where the pedal pivots with a torch, and see it the bracket has sheared off.

    Poke

what is poke? how far the rim or the tyre is outside the arch? - Mainly rim. whats the legal limit for road user 20mm? - Arguable really, I've read many conflicting things, but what stands out is 0mm front, 30mm rear but nobody knows for sure because the regs aren't that clear. Don't take the piss and you should be okay! any downsides to having to much poke? - STDs, Pregnancy and loss of vaginal elasticity.
  11. Mechanical security like this is pointless on a new car like a fox - They are immobilised VERY well from the factory. so unless the thieves have the keys, they have no chance of starting it at all, and they all know this so won't touch it unless you leave a satnav on the seat or something.
  12. Oh yeah, it would have been a lot quicker, but I was just out for a laugh really - I knew I wasn't going to win anything in a car that's not in any way built for the track, with a boot full of sub, a jack and 150 piece socket set flying about in the back, so I just went for the most smiles per mile! I was going to do a proper run at it on the last lap, but went a little bit fast in so was in danger of running wide on the exit (It would have been close anyway) so thought sod it, and yanked on the bar. I was staying well away from the apexes too, because they were all potholed onto the grass and I had a 5 hour drive home to manage in the car and no RAC cover! On hindsight, If I'd have tried I'd have come 3rd in class (second car) and got a faster time than the Clio 172..... but nevermind, I had a good time and gave a good show
  13. Yeah, that's it. There was about 5mm space outside, and they touched inside - this was before I put any air in them too
  14. Cheers I'm pleased with it! A mate has just sent me the video of my second run through... This is how we roll Youtube Video ->Original Video Looks a hell of a lot slower than it feels! EDIT: Second lap: Youtube Video ->Original Video EDIT 2: Another! Youtube Video ->Original Video
  15. Oh, One more picture that I took using a mates camera - It's great to have something that I can change the settings on! It's certainly not the first time someone has ran round the car with an LED light with a long exposure, but it's the first time I've done it, and I'm quite proud
  16. Reeto, I took the Arosa lights off the back and put normal ones back on, which I think I prefer. Got back from Retro Rides Gathering yesterday, where I had a great evening camping and a good day at the show the day after. I even took it round the sprint track (Full of tools and everything valuable that I didn't want to leave in the tent unattended). I wasn't expecting it to do very well, but I came 4th in class (out of 14), behind a hillclimb prepped 205 (which took up the top two slots as it was driven by a father and sun team) and only lost out to a track prepped mk1 golf running throttle bodies on a 1.3 by 0.1 seconds. Dead pleased, especially considering I had to run wide and handbrake turn round one of the corners because I'd have beached it if I took the normal line. I was only 0.5 seconds slower over the two laps than a bloody Clio 172, which had 2.5x as much power and actual suspension, rather than about an inch of over damped movement then bumpstops/floor. My time was 56.something seconds. Few pics: Loaded it up with my new roof bars and the troll (a comedy bike me and a mate made out of an old folding shopper bike and a mini moto, its bloody lethal) and set off down to somerset: Got plenty of looks and thumbs up on the motorway like this, lol! Here are a few pictures I've seen that were taken of my car whilst I was out wandering: This is me sideways just after my detour round the hump in the hairpin:, you can see how wide I had to take it, a good 10 feet off the racing line! (The hairpin is off to the left, past the cone) Had a great weekend, and the car proved itself surprisingly good round the track, although perhaps it must have been my excellent driving in a car setup completely wrong? lol.
  17. I wish I could have afforded to get mine done, but the bags I bought (cheap, on the off chance they would fit) were just too big (UVAIR strut bags won't fit in the front strut hole of a Lupo FYI) I'm going over to the states in a few months, and providing I've not lost interest I'll probably sneak a pair of narrower air struts and some small rear bags back over with me - I really want the car on the floor with some big wheels tucked in the arches. Small and wide looks great, but I fancy a change
  18. In that picture, the top ones won't fit either because they have no tab to mount the strut to the hub carrier. A lot of these ebay sellers use a "stock" photo, which isn't of the actual coilovers you'll get.
  19. The VW jack did this to me! Now I only use it to jack the car up the first 2 inches, until I can get my trolley jack under, Which is from the Argos kit linked earlier in the thread. It's lasted me 7 years, 2 dozen cars, half a dozen engine changes and more sets of wheels than I can imagine!
  20. little stuff is OK, it can slip through, but big stuff will catch customs eye. You could get the seller to mark them with a very low value, so you pay "Some" duty but not all. I'm going to the USA in a few months, and wondering how I can arrange my luggage so that I can sneak a set back with me!
  21. I was just going off what a pair of cams for a 106 costs as a rough figure
  22. Bear in mind the cams will be £300 ish, and then the ECU Remap to make the thing run properly with the cams around that much again, turning a £300 job into £1000. £300 is a lot of money IMHO for resealing the rockers, even considering the cams will need setting up again and stuff.
  23. Yeah, they will fit on a custom shelf, but use 12 or 18mm MDF and ideally 2 plies to give it some shape and stop it sagging (The 6x9 cutouts will make it weak otherwise). I made this for mine: And then carpeted it and it looks stock: Don't know why I bothered though, because I have the thing setup so the rear speakers are so quiet you barely notice them. Waste of a £150 pair of speakers, lol! If you don't like subs, that's fine - a good pair of 6x9s amped up to approx 100w RMS each will be pretty decent. If you do this, amp the front speakers up too or the sound will be dragged to the back and sound rubbish For "normal" stuff I always recommend JBL 6x9s. Really powerful, nice lively sound and cheap at about £50 a pair. You have to spend over double this to get anything that competes IMHO. I have a set of Focal ones that were well over £150 and they aren't a patch on the JBLs for what most people want. Maybe slightly cleaner vocals, but that's no good when it's coming from behind you and bouncing off a rear window!
  24. 6x9s won't even nearly fit on the parcel shelf (4" is as big as will go on the standard one, otherwise you can make a custom one) and you need 16.5 or 17cm ones for the front door. You'd be better with a good set of speakers in the front directly off the headunit, and a small 10" sub off a 150/200w rms amp. Would work out cheaper and sound better
