  1. They're usually in one of two places; just after the exhaust manafold, or in the first half of the cat box (engine side) Haven't any idea as yet in regards to the SDi or TDI as I've not had a chance to take a closer look, will post my findings as and when I get a chance though, if someone doesn't contribute beffore hand, haha Most if not all EGRs use a piston to opperate the recirc function, so relubing that piston with some high temp grease is always a good thing, and any other moving part... try to avoid getting grease inside the opening, but again as long as the moving parts have some grease on, then all is good aye 9/10 they have gaskets, they're only usually a couple of quid too Think Imma do mine soon, bet it's not been cleaned in a while!
  2. Haha, yeah I think most people have done that atleast once lol, your right though, you'll get spanked big time when it comes to mot Have a look into the particulate filter idea, *may be wrong in regards to lupos* but most of the time they are seperate from the cat, I've found some kias have them intergrated... It's like a soot bin that mops up after the egr, most of them are self maintaining and will fall into a cleanout cycle when cruising at 60-70mph for 10 mins+ Not 100% sure if you can make the egr open and stay open? I know if it's full of crud it can jam open *making the car sound like a bag of spanners when idling, and kangerooing on acceleration* I'd just take it off, clean it with some carb cleaner and a soft brass wire brush, strip it down as much as possible to do this. Make sure to regrease it when afterwards, most guides forget to tell you that lol, and you probably won't need a new gasket, but it may be best to get new gaskets for it when bolting it back on, just makes for a descent job and gives peace of mind
  3. first off, don't block it off, you don't really gain much performance from doing it vs the benefits it provides. with it your engine will last longer, you'll have lower emmissions = passing tests more easily, and a cleaner fuel burn, which is all much of a muchness I'd take it off and give it a clean out with some carb cleaner, the car will thank you for it haha your right, should be sooted up if bad, otherwise just grimey, either way it's always good to clean em symptoms are usually irregular or boggy power, and kangarooing when accelerating. personally I'd look at a sport cat, and or delete the particulate filter "sometimes theyre intergrated into the cat body...meaow"
  4. What reg mate and petrol or derv?
  5. Haha, yeah I had thought of cutting the glass out, but if I can refrain from any particulary invasive methods that'd be prefferable, been told theres an electrical method?? but still locked out... wouldn't mind but I was gona get a spare cut once I fit the alarm, was thinking flip key
  6. let me know if you are gona have a deek at fixing it yourself
  7. Hey guys, was wondering if anyone else finds the accelerator a bit on the digital side on the 1.4 TDI loop? Also, I'm finding it feels like the power just isn't reaching the wheels... This is probably just me being used to larger diesels, but still, it feels like the engine has potential that is being lost?? Whats peoples experiences of remapping, as I would very much like to have some descent power in it
  8. Got my loop booked in for the beginning of april at the pulmans vw in durham, they seemed pretty unaware of the waranty but booked it in all the same, so fingers crossed! Any ideas what a full respray runs at these days... just incase the deal goes sour haha
  9. Just fixed my lupo the other day, its the indicator stalk... either needs replacing or taking appart and new contacts soldering onto the copper bridges. Taking it appart and fixing it yourself is the best way if you know what your doing, unless you can get a brand spanking new indicator stalk, otherwise this will just happen again somewhere down the line.
  10. Ahr this looks promicing... first off, stuff like this really narks me, sorry to hear someones fallen victim agan, if quite a while ago now, my mate recently had his loop stripped of all its wiper blades, aerial, and scratched the door trying to get it, duno why, hes got nowt in there. Anyways... yeah so my who I left in the car while I picked something up decided he was gona be awesome and get out the car while leaving the keys in, haha *faceplams* Been driving my other car for the time being, but would like to be back in the loop <(budum'tss!) hoping someone will look at this as it does look a touch dead PM me if you have any advice, I'm also interested to know any other security flaws beffore I fit my alarm system ba$*£ds arn't nicking my car haha
  11. Aye you've done it the right way round, if your ever going to compromise track on a cb, it's best to bridge the track with some kynar wire of a similar or greater guage. Hows it working now and what model of oem key was it?
  12. IIRC the brown is the earth so no, do not swap them! the wires are thicker than the rest as they are the main powersupply cables for the unit and need to be heavyer to provide enough constant current, the red wire should be your ignition live (if its behaving its self, so many times I find all the freaking cables live, lol) If its just started happening I would recomend the WD40 in the ignition barrel trick (GT85 for the Hellfraudsters, haha) if you can get some silicone electrical contact spray that would be better than WD40, a small squirt or two in the ignition barrel, stick the key in and give it a turn back and forth, dont do this too quick as you dont want to confuse the electrics, give the barrel a bit of a push with your thumb two, then see what your radio is doing. Hopefully it is the ignition and after this its fixed
  13. Hey guys, been lurkin on here for a while, n thought I'd sign up now I've got my TDI some spoton info on here which helped sway me to the loop, so thanks where it's due I was actually about to buy a tvr tuscan with heavy front and rear end fiberglass damage when I saw my loop for sale, haha A mate and I were going to rep the fg, hit it with some silver we had tinned up, then wrap the whole thing matt black, get the alloys refurbed in smoked chrome, sell half the interior, and go for a more basic lotus 7/ aircraft type cockpit... maybe later hey xD
