  1. one thing I do miss with the TDI though is a 6th gear!
  2. I must say that is an odd one haha, but I can understand where your coming from... I really like the looks of the GTI especially interior, and it's a great car to drive, yet at the same time, while it will blast about and hugs the road, I tend to miss the torq of a diesel engine and find the accelerator slightly spongey "this is incomparison to diesels in general not specifically the TDI" you can either stick with the TDI and maybe swapout the interior and/or front end with GTI parts, with the scope for tuning the TDI engine and suspension should you want more performance or go for the GTI and get the looks you want... Maybe having it professionally remapped or even eco mapped is it's economy your concerned about... an if you have the money, you could comit a comunity traversty and have the TDI lump put into the GTI haha, although if I was doing that I would go for a 1.9TDI engine rather than the 1.4TDI
  3. lives in cambridgeshire and doesn't have cambridge edition rear lights tut tut
  4. Was thinking about deleting the rear silencer and possibly the cat after seeing a few guys have done this on their 1.4TDIs Can anyone recomend a good place to get something like this made up... and am I dreaming if I think this can be done for under £100? haha cheers
  5. Hey guys, officially fedup and would like some advice before I end up being the sole owner of every teledial out there! haha Looking to put some teledials on my TDI I've got a set of 20mm adapters to start with, so knowing what "if any" wheels would fit the lupo with these would be a help? IIRC "will check tomorow" the teledials I have are 15x6j with slightly stretched tyres... used willtheyfit to calculate a tyre with the least spedo upset It's definately something I'm not getting with the offset, again IIRC, I think the main set I have are ET23... I think my line of thought was 23mm plus 20mm adapter equals ET43 pretty certain I've tried ET52, thinking maby it's 52mm minus 20mm hub equals ET32 with 11mm diference I'm certain I have a few other offsets lurking around. getting too much poke with the main set on the front, basically unusable, not so bad on the rear, although they keep scrubbing the inner arch lip when you go over a bump too fast or have people in the back. also noticed the cars handling went a bit screwy on corners with teledials on the rear, stock wheels on the front... back end kept wanting to slide out, and thats with falken tires. again I'll get exact figures tomorow, but any help would be great as I'm sick of reading that these things go on, yet no definitive breakdown of which actually fit... that I can find anyways would rather I didn't have to roll my arches if possible too
  6. After having driven all three, the 1.0 can be fun and nippy if your stomp happy, ok with poor fuel economy and it screaming everywhere you go... it saves a bit more coin if you drive drive it chilled out @ or 5mph below the speed limits, with its ideal situation being short urban trips where your starting and stopping a lot, providing your pulling away gradually from lights etc. what's been said about it on motorways is quite true... you feel like your on a kamakazi mission over pearl harbour with how much engine scream you get, it just doesn't feel happy the 1.7 SDI can feel a touch heavy and lumpy at times... it's more of a work horse and will see you up hills with little effort. as I think was previously mentioned on here if you have a relaxed driving style this is an ideal car for casually getting from a-b over long distances. Not so efficient on those door to door trips. The 1.4 TDI is a good all rounder... I actually prefered this over the GTI, but everyones different as standard, the ones I have driven have all given me about 12-15pence per mile mixed driving (running about and 50-80mile trips). Again this also has no trouble getting up hills, and is fairly swift in getting upto speed without having to be heavy footed The TDI usually features a few more mod cons than the 1.0MPI and the 1.7SDI, like electric windows, ac, electric mirrors, fog lights, etc etc and has a slightly nicer interior. Motorway journeys like the 1.7 SDI aren't a problem, you can cruise comfortably, and over take without breaking a sweat. It is true that the temptation is there to floor it all the way with the TDI haha for me I liked the gti interior, so that is something I've been gradually changing, and I like to have a bit of fun while I'm driving, so it has been remapped after the EGR was swapped out for a straight pipe and the filter replaced with a K&N for a bit more power and throttle responce. Then I dropped it on some coilovers + a new bushing set to improve the handling/cornering. So now it feels more like a drivers car and I still only shell out 15-18pence per liter, with 35-40 quid filling the tank. TBH I found my milage actually improved just by removing the EGR and fitting the K&N... which is just a cylinder filter replacement, not a fancy after market cone job, so will fit in the car with no modifications needed Also gave a moderate increase in acceleration. You can also have the catalytic converter removed on these for a touch more power and still pass your mot with no problems providing the engine is in good working order, which is usually the case with these cars as the engines are built to last infact quite a few of VW diesel engines are designed primarily for trucks, tractors, boats etc then repurposed for the cars we drive. well thats my 2p on the matter, hope this was useful
  7. I was bored enough to check this out haha Not many insurers would touch the "theoretical" car with a "metaphorical" barge pole Aviva and endsleigh seemed to be the only main stream insurers that would entertain it, yet every insurer clearly stated that it was a "Performance Moddification"... the irony was that none of them could see that it was a negitive performance mod and seemed to think that the new 1.0 engine would suddenly turn the car into a twin turbo boy racer menice Tax would just stay the same as the original chassis... even if you cut a hole in the floor and go at it flintstones style hope this helps, entertained me for half an hour anyways, lol
  8. cleaning it out would bring it back to optimal OEM operation, but removing it, blanking the exhaust feed, and fitting a straight pipe allows it to breathe so much better, you gain a noticeable acceleration increase
  9. Haha, liking everyones solutions tbh I haven't even noticed a difference with the anti shudder off, if anything it all seems smoother???
  10. Hey guys, thought I'd post this in-case it hasn't been already, and for the sharing of the informations If you have the 1.4 Tdi lupo and are wanting to delete the egr valve, check out the Alard Aluminium website, the kit your wanting is the Golf 1.9 tdi PD90 kit, everything in this kit is a direct fit, as the 1.4 is the 1.9 minus a cylinder "I found doing this eliminated most of the engine lag / the delay from when foot meets accelerator, to BWAAAAAAAAMMMM" <-- for those who like sound effects Car seems a lot happier and I may have even shaved off a penny or two per mile ps, before you test the kit out after instillation, make sure you have effectively capped off the vacuum hoses that used to be connected to the egr valve actuators, not doing so will most likley trigger a fault code, not a problem if you have vag com, but if not, its a simple little thing that can save you more bother.
  11. In regards to the 1.4 tdi "sadly not sdi" you can just buy the alard pd 90 golf egr delete kit theres not much point just blanking the recirc if your going to do it, remove the valve as well and fit a straight through pipe, kills engine lag bigtime
  12. You gotta do the noises when your talking about these things man, haha yeah I took it in for my mechanic to have a look at, but he seemed to think it drove fine... it is a nice drive, but I think ill just tell them to replace the thrust bearing regardless Rich, you got a set of polished audi rims on your polo by any chance?
  13. Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows what this is... when the car reaches 2500rpm regardless of gear i start to get a washing machine churning sound... some times its quite high pitch and all "Nyaaaan nyaaaan nyaaaan nyaaan" (one nyaaan per 1-2 seconds, lol) when i take my foot off the accelerator its just "shunga shunga shunga shunga" and when i dip the clutch it shuts up completely could it be the thrust bearing... or is it worse??? any help/input would be muchos appreciated
  14. Just an update, got my loop remapped for just £150 and its miles better... strange thing is, its smoothed everything out, so i find im not flogging it to get anywhere now, and in turn using a lot less fuel, haha deleting the egr helps a bunch too acceleration wise
