Piston rings is a notorious 1.4 16v problem The diesels are pretty much bomb proof Could be worn cam / tappets but id doubt it, more likely oil getting past the turbo... Oily exhaust??

Ive read a few horror stories over on briskoda on the 1.4 16v far more likely to suffer piston ring failure if used on 95ron Vpower all the way

Seems you can get the stat for a shade over a tenner or the whole shooting match for £30 When i did mine i used the original housing (patent part) From vw considerably more around £30 for stat alone iirc
