  1. You would probably gain something. As far as fitting is concerned, i think the 1400 head uses the same port spacing (certainly on the exhaust side) as the GTI. You may have to do some chopping and changing with the various breathers though. I.e. some may need blanking on the GTI inlet. Also, is your sport fly by wire throttle??
  2. Go for it mate. You could probably use one of those big exhaust clamps (looks like a big jubilee clip) that wraps around the whole can to hold it on. It should breath okay with a gixxer can; it's a four stroke, it'll be unrestrictive, the bore size is realistic. Be sure to post a video when you've done it.
  3. If you need a hand to fit a new subframe give us a shout mate. Should only take a couple of hours.
  4. You may well find that the 'abused' sport is quicker. Higher mileage engines are looser and the learning ecu may have adapted to a harder driving style.
  5. If you insist on saving £30, which i have done in the past, then this is what to do... Jack the car up, take your front wheels of and slacken the track rod ends. This is the hardest part to be honest. You may need to put some heat on the nuts depending on how old/corroded they are. Put a wheel on Get a mate to hold a piece of string against the rear tyre wall Set your steering wheel straight Hold the other end of the string against the front wheel Tighten/slacken the track rod end till' the piece of string touches the both contact points on the tyre side wall. Repeat this process on the other side Tighten up the lock nuts on the track rod ends. I've done it this way a few times and believe it or not, it's quite accurate. Whenever i've had it laser tracked afterwards it's always been near as dammit!
  6. Ask them and see what response you get. I must say, i was rather baffled when he told me they couldn't do it...
  7. I've been told by a few people to avoid JBS, as they aren't true to their word. AMD said they'll map it for £300 in vat. Seems reasonable enough. Anyone got any experience?
  8. Turns out that R-tech can't map a GTI. They wanted my car for 2 weeks to see if there is anything they can do, but that's just not feasible as i use it daily. Back to square one!
  9. I'm hoping for around 150 @ the flywheel. It may be a little optimistic, but i don't really know what to expect from these cams! I'll be letting everyone know what it's made and i'll give you GTI owners some more info on the cams when it's mapped and working properly. I'm getting engine lights galore with the new cams, so i'm going to check the cam timing again tonight, just to make sure it's not a tooth out. Although the tickover is good and it's got more torque and revs harder a lot higher up the rev range, so they can't be far out, if any! Looks like i'll be going with R-tech. They have some great reviews and seem to know their stuff.
  10. AMD looks like a good shout. They even list the Lupo GTI on their site and claim a 10bhp increase, with a price of £300 inc vat.
  11. Stealth wanted £450+vat, which i think pretty steep and i got the impression that they didn't want the job cus it's not a straight-forward map. Is that the JBS in near Derby?? I've heard some horror stories from them!
  12. Well being as i have high lift cams, manifold, decat, supersprint backbox, BMC induction, lightened flywheel i'm sure i'll benefit from a remap. It seems as though there may be some detonation, so the ignition timing needs sorting asap really. Anyone ever used Stealth Racing?
  13. Who in the UK can map a GTI? 'Awesome GTI' were my first port of call, however, after a phonecall today they told me they are no longer able to map the Lupo GTI as the man in the know has left.
  14. I think, to be honest, the bolt has just worked it's way loose? It's actually on a tapered spline if my memory serves me correctly. As soon as you bolt it down it should lock into the taper and sort itself out. The only thing baffling me is, why did it come off in the first place... EDIT: Looking at the second last pic, the spline might be stripped?

I'd take a few of the BBS bolts.
  16. I think it serves a purpose.... It seems catch all the moisture and mayonnaise that accumulates from short journeys and saves it from building up in the head.
  17. You can't be losing a massive ammount if it's not all over the pavement when you park up. Jack it up and have a proper look underneath. The best thing to do is give it a good blast (lots of high revs) and look in the mirror for smoke (be sure not to confuse oil smoke with tyre smoke ) Then get back and park it up on a dry, clean surface for 10 mins and check for any drips or signs of leakage. If it's gonna leak, it'll be when the oil is piping hot and runny.
  18. Forget all that. Put PD130 turbo/injectors on it, a front mount intercooler then get it mapped. You'll be seeing some massive bhp gains! At least i think that's the done thing. Do some more research mate.
  19. It'll certainly rev free-er and allow the turbo to spool up quicker. As said, get a remap afterwards and you'll see a nice healthy power gain. I bet it'll sound pretty good too!
  20. I assume that the smoke coming out the exhaust is clear. My GTI does it and it is indeed down to the exhaust design. The upward swept (rain catcher) exhaust tips are open to the elements and rain water gets down them and sits in the backbox. As the exhaust gets hot the water condenses and turns to vapour (steam), which is what you see coming out the back. That is nothing to worry about and is completely normal. However, if the smoke you are seeing is black or dark in colour, then it's most likely oil that is being burnt as a result of worn piston rings or valve stem seals. This would also explain the excessive oil consumption. Although, you've got to expect it to burn a bit of oil. I've found that my oil level sits at 3/4 on the dipstick. No matter how often i fill it, it always ends up on 3/4 and between services it sits between 1/2 and 3/4. I do give mine a pretty hard time though.
  21. When you say 'running rich', i assume you're referring to the air/fuel ratio? If so, what makes you say it's running rich. The reason for asking is becase i want to confirm that you know rich/lean mixture has nothing to do with oil...?
  22. Go for this Apex kit. http://www.venommotorsport.com/product_details.php?id=2203&manufacturer=Apex&category=Suspension I once had a Gmaxx shocks on an Astra, which i thought were alright, but then i changed them for Apex and the difference was night and day.
  23. Transmech are ****e. I put one in my dads transit and 5000 miles later it's warped and judders like mad under load.
  24. I might go for one, depending on how low it sits when fitted. Also, weight is a factor for me.
