  1. ah right, just a bit curious because id never seen one before
  2. Cheers for the replies, Ill get it done next week, clutch went today so that needs replacing first Just another thing, why have I never seen another engine cover like mine? Its a 1.4S 16v
  3. As titled, not sure on how to get to the throttle body to give it a clean, on videos online they show them on the top of the bay though when I asked the garage to do it while they were welded an exhaust hanger they said theyd need to strip loads of stuff out to get to it? Couldn't find anything on here with the search so sorry if this already exists somewhere Just want to clean it because it'll be filthy and I think its causing a few problems Cheers, Max
  4. Oh right so it might not be an expensive job after all, I'll give that a try today because I'm driving to Leeds Well I took it to my local garage yesterday to get it over the pit and the bushes are all fine and the driveshaft seems fine too The weird ticking noise is coming from the box but it goes away when the clutch pedal is down and reading up on it it just sounds like clutch wear? (not 100% on this but thats what the majority of cases came back with) Found out I had a loose zaust hanger which was welded there and then and I also have a small oil leak on the box, don't know where from though, it needs steam cleaning first
  5. It will just do it for a while anywhere from 50-70, doesnt have to be constant, and breaking only stops it as I drop below 50 from talking to a friend at work he also thinks its a bush that needs replacing, might just get new ones all round Can anyone recommend some decent ones? and is it an easy job to do myself? Cheers for replies
  6. Thanks for the reply mike, No it doesnt really make any noise (well as far as I can tell as the road noise at 50-70 is quite loud in my car ), its just a wobble you can feel and see in the steering wheel, could a nackered bearing cause the wobble though? I've been thinking about it at work and if the garage didnt tighten up my track rod end properly on that side after having it tracked could this cause it? Ill check the bushes as well tomorrow because I've got a day off to try and sort it out Cheers Max
  7. Okay, so I have a really strange problem that I cant work out. When on the motorway or dual carriageway my car sometimes decides that it wants to shake, however, its not all the time, it just randomly decides when to wobble and when not to It feels like its coming from the passenger side front wheel and happens anywhere from 50-70mph, and the steering wheel shakes side to side like if you had wheel wobble, the vibrations are stronger the higher the speed. But this is the weird part, it will do it for like a mile then stop and the ride will return to being completely smooth with no shakes or wobbles AT ALL. -I know its not wheel wobble because otherwise it would be all the time (and they spin straight when jacked up) -I have no loose wheel bolts -Tyres are balanced -Tracking is straight and was only done about a month ago -Car drives straight on and off the throttle without holding the steering wheel (however the wheel looks ever so slightly turned to the right even when its driving straight)- drives straight even when its shaking -I haven't hit any potholes or severe bumps that could have knocked anything out -I haven't scraped or caught the car on anything to start it happening -problem doesn't seem to be wearing tyres unevenly -My drive shaft doesn't come into contact with the chassis (at least theres no knocking noises from the front end) so I don't think its related to that either -The car didn't do this when I first bought it and I don't think it did it after first fitting the coils either -when i fitted the coils i pulled the hubs right away from the car (for maximum positive camber) and tightened, but if one side has become loose and slipped back could this be the problem? (however it doesn't look like its any more cambered than the drivers side) -It seems to start it off (when its driven smooth for a while) by turning left Any ideas? as its really irritating me at the moment. Anything engine related? as thats not running at its best currently either :| -Belts make a relatively loud noise however cambelt was recently changed -Engine ticks/shakes quite a bit and exhaust splutters increasingly more often as of late. -Clicking/tapping noise from the passenger side of the engine bay, couldn't locate the problem last night because it was dark and couldn't be arsed with it because it was late and I was hungry (this was at idle stood on the drive - idle is a bit lumpy but it isn't hunting for revs or anything - throttle body still needs cleaning) That's everything I can think off atm! Any help would be much appreciated
  8. Cheers man, you have to heat it for ages before you go at it? might give it a bash tonight
  9. Cheers, I would but it seems such a simple task that anyone could do it and I don't really want to pay someone to do something I can do myself to a relatively similar standard
  10. Hi, When I bought the loop in aug/oct it was in great condition bar the sills being bent fairly severely Ive put up with them for the time being as when its lowered you don't see them as much but I'm sick of walking up to it in car parks and being confronted by horrid bent sills looking back at me. Ive read that using a piece of wood and a mallet can solve it, but what are the best methods to fix this problem? I just don't want to crack them or the paint (too badly) thats all (theres no rust on them as far as I can tell so they'll probably be able to take a bit of force) Cheers!
  11. Cheers man, I tried to keep it as 'oem looking' as possible as well as one that would fit the curve neatly without needing to be cut in the middle
  12. Just some new pictures Not done much since last post, moved the lowlife sticker from front to back (arching over the glass wiper bung), i<3speedbumps sticker on splitter, repainting all dash (space blue), currently drying upstairs just needs sanding and polishing and its good to go back in Also got a new gear gaitor and knob because mine was looking tired, no point in taking a picture of it haha oh and put my tow eye cover back on at the front Also a pic from ages ago that i forgot to upload showing black roof trim parts (handles, light, visors, rear view) apart from all the silver is now space blue
  13. ahhh ok thanks for the quick reply anyway mate!
  14. hi, Any chance youve got the dial surrounds/hood for sale? both the top part and mounting part Cheers, Max
  15. all lamin-x black tints are road legal, you can get subtle tint (what I'm running) or gun smoke which is the darker version that some on here are running, both are claimed (by lamin-x) to be road/MOT legal There's also a bunch of other colours, but I don't know about the legality of those
  16. are you not supposed to re-use the big ribbed, foamy bumpstop things from the standard suspension? Ive got mine in but it doesnt have much travel, im guessing thats why its not the smoothest of rides?
  17. yehhh I did them ages ago, one of the first things I did
  18. oh yeah hahaahah forgot that i had to use the plastic one well ive still got it, might put it on the back |:B
  19. yeah just short self-taping screws, literally 10 min job and makes a world of difference cheers man, yeah the scrappers only had a couple in and neither had splitters on
  20. nice one man, well have to get a meet sometime when its warmer seems theres a few from round here, chris (xchris1609) is a mate of mine from near here too Yeah we went round the scrap yard after measuring the front end and the mk1 fits the front curve the best, i had to cut a few inches back on the sides though but its only thin plastic so its easily doable with a decent stanley/hobby knife Its roughly 53-55" across and 8-10" from arch to front corner if you were thinking about looking but tbh i think the laguna ( ) one looks most OEM because its nice and plain
  21. just a little update! Car is looking more and more like a lego car every week hahah -Renault Laguna splitter -De-wiper with glass blank -Adjusters out of the back and bumps stops cut shorter (adjuster plates are still in) Car needs a clean I know... Next plan is to get some hubcentric 20mm spacers for front (its running crappy 10mm shims atm) just to push the wheels to the arches and give it a bit more stance because the front is looking too square atm
  22. gutted, at least your car sounds like a horse blowing bubbles
  23. this is a long shot but do you have the speedo/dial surround (GTI version with gloss black trim) including the bottom half (to mount the single hood on)
