Tbh the engine loom on those aren't too much hassle. An auto electrician should be fine.

Well if it cut out and then worked again when you disturbed the loom than that should give you an idea of where the problem is.

Had this on a tdi polo the other day, was gammy wiring on the loom, tried a new sensor, no better, had a good check over of the wiring, found a suspect bit of loom, stripped and repaired the breaks, all good.

Pretty easy to find a current draw, get your multimeter out and put it in the circuit with the battery at the negative side and see what reading you're getting. If the readings are higher than they should be then start yanking fuses till the amps drop and whatever system that fuse is related to then that's you're issue.
