when i was first trying to get insurance using the price comparison websites i tried changing my post code (which i found out was the second worst post code you can have) to my grans post code (which was the best) and the price dropped from around £1000 to £500 :-O I now have 1 years ncb, im 20 and insurance is around £600 with my post code. All prices were with third party, fire and theft. ps. i was 19 when i got my first car insurance.

Snaped drive shaft bolts
whatsupwatson replied to whatsupwatson's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
They were snapped and half of the bolt was still inside the flange, mabe just over tightened but the ones that hadnt snapped werent all that tight -
today i took out the gear box of my 1.4 ahw loop as i am changing the engine and i found that several of the bolts holding the drive shaft to the g/box flange had snapped inside, the whole bolts were there but i could pull them out by hand without unscrewing :-S there was only four bolts holding the shaft on and three on the other side! just wondering if anyone else had encountered this?

i have a 1.4 ahw 75 bhp lupo, ive had oil problems from the start. During winter it had a high oil pressure and kept on spitting oil out of the dip stick, i flushed it, removed the pick up pipe and cleaned it out, changed oil filter blah blah, it was fine again for a while but still had a small amount of oil loss aswell as cooking some. Then one morning i went out to it to see oil running down my street without starting it, i did how ever try and run it but it was coughing and spluttering, lots of smoke and was basically empty of oil. Anyway, i tried to top it up but it poured out as fast as i put it in, i took off the throttle body and the inlet manifold was full of old oil, and ideas to what would have caused this? i know the engine is pretty much a lost cause now anyway. From my experience and what ive been told (VW mechanics) this ahw engine is a piece of junk generally, what are other peoples experiences? thoughts?

Oil loss on christmas eve
whatsupwatson replied to whatsupwatson's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
yep, the older 16 valve one -
i got stuck in the middle of no where in the scottish borders on xmas eve in -10 weather when my lupo decided to blow all the oil out of the dipstick, when i got it back to the garage (ford dealership) the mechanic said he had 3 vws with the same engine in that week with the same problem, he cleaned out the crank breather (which wasnt actually block although had some gunk in it)filled it back up and all was fine, anybody else heard or had this happen to them? cheers

The definitive Pedal Box Thread
whatsupwatson replied to elajf1's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
heyy, my loop is 10 yrs young now and touching 74000miles my clutch cable has just snapped, however i havent noticed any of the symptoms mentioned for the pedal box to be going, the clutch was operating fine before this happened,i work as delivery driver and this has been such a pain happening on new years eve, all the parts places are closed for the weekend holidays :@ it just seems to be one thing after another with this car:( -
i seen a black lupo GTi in stewartfield area in east kilbride

i dont know what the previous owner put in it, perhaps just the wrong grade
-
could be, mabe even just the wiring, havent really had time to check it, i will try get the pressure tester on it sometime this week
-
Yeah deffinetly, it was right on the minimum i topped it upto half way but the light still comes on same as before, and it does it if the engine is cold or not

I bought a 99(T) 1.4 s lupo about a week ago and im loving it, such a difference in quality to that of my corsa.I will get some piks up once i get some nice wheels on it and its looking shiny Ive already done almost 500 miles in a week but the red oil light comes on and beeps when i make a hard left turn and it is only a hard left. The previous owner said he changed and flushed the oil just before i bought it, i did how ever notice it was right on the minimum line so i topped it up but still the problem occurs, i am going to give it an oil pressure test some point this week and see what that turns up. i dont know if the oil pump has been changed, i was going to flush it again in case it was a blocked oil gallery but thought id check if anyone one here had an idea or suggestion
