  1. Cost implications mate - plus I don't think it really matters what order you do anyhow....you get there in the end eventually. Just from a remap it went up from 136 to 143bhp
  2. I've gone and done it and bought the full Bastuck exhaust system for my Lupo GTI! Should have it here by the weekend... getting excited already, heard lots of good things about them. The Loop's already been remapped and had a power run on the rollers, so can anyone suggest whether it now needs a panel filter/induction kit to suit the Bastuck system? Cheers Sezza
  3. Thanks everyone for the help - will pass on the details. I didn't realise turbos were that expensive secondhand or recon!
  4. My other half has a 1998 Fiat Coupe LE and it looks like the turbo seals are going as it's starting to smoke on tickover and from cold. Ranges from a bit to a lot! I think these have a Garrett turbo - can anyone recommend a place that can either refurb his in exchange? So far he's had quotes of £300+! Cheers
  5. One spotted by the other half... Monday 18 Oct stuck in horrendous early morning rush hour traffic on M25 past Dartford... you were in the slow lane, really tidy example slammed on original Bathursts...
  6. Right quick update: Tyres are inflated correctly Did a bit of a driving stint and found the Loop drifts to the left, doesn't matter at what speed. Then if you floor it, back off, floor it etc as a test, you can feel the front pulling to the left when you give it the beans, which feels a bit like torque steer. It's like the front is trying to do something different to the rear. Yes it does tramline, but it's still drifting left right, left right when driving in a motorway lane at motorway speeds, so I'm forever correcting the steering. The caster angle wasn't touched during the alignment - it seems it can't be altered - but could this be the issue? The print out I have shows the front driver's side is +5 27... passenger's +1.11. Curiouser and curiouser...
  7. Thanks everyone for the responses - I'll go check those tyres (could be over inflated) which are Toyo Proxes. Laser wheel alignment was done fairly recently by AmD - I know they had trouble sorting out which Lupo to link it with on their system because, as per usual, the GTI model doesn't exist So they had to go with a RHD Lupo and used those alignment stats. I'll check on the way home to see if it's pulling to one side as suggested and come back with my verdict!
  8. Okay, here's what's happening to my lowered Lupo GTI, and just wondered if a similar experience is happening to others. It's lowered by 30mm on Eibach springs/Bilstein dampers, has a rear anti-roll bar fitted. Has been four-wheel laser aligned. Has been remapped to 143bhp. Wheels now 16in instead of 15s... interior the same as usual, so not stripped out. When I'm driving at motorway speeds, the only way I can describe it is like it's driving on ice, it sort of drifts back and forth in the lane (not violently!). Is this because air is lifting the car up slightly because of its flat underside and I've changed the stance? If I accelerate from a standing start like away from the traffic lights, it's a bit more extreme which I can only assume is torque steer... I never experienced any of the above when it was standard. Any pointers/ideas/feedback? Cheers!
  9. Hi there I own a 2001 Y-Reg Lupo GTI in Reflex Silver and yes, it's a five-speed...! From what I've seen, the only difference between years, apart from the gearbox, is interior colours. For example mine is a very early example so has the standard grey cloth check interior with grey door inserts. Later ones had red and grey check cloth and red door inserts, but all, from what I believe, had red seatbelts. Of course there are also some later leather interior examples... Although my mileometer is ticking over 97k, the interior's holding up well, no wear and tear and the engine's absolutely fine. If I could turn back time and only have half that mileage then sure that'd be fab for resale purposes, but to be honest mate higher mileage Lupo GTIs from my experience are okay too, but as someone else has said, make sure you get the cambelt changed as a priority.
  10. Kojak. KJO last part of numberplate, so kinda made sense. Then my mother decided to tell me I had no hair when I was a baby for ages, so I was renamed for a while. Nice.
  11. Mine's a 1.6 GTI and does on average 220 miles to a tank with super unleaded, although saying that with BP's Ultimate it can do 240... However if I continue driving with the orange light on the dash, it can do over 250 but that makes me realllyyy nervous!!
  12. Here's the link to Powerflex's website for the Lupo, if you click on the car diagram top right you'll see exactly what bushes you need and where... http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products/Lupo+%281999+-+2004%29-1137/1.html
  13. Hi Rudaz I've only just completely overhauled the bushes on my 2001 Lupo GTI and replaced with Powerflex ones. Best thing I ever did - the ride is a million times better. You will need to use a vice if you don't have a hydraulic press to get the busted ones out and squeeze in the chunkier replacements. If you wanted a step by step photo led guide to replacing the bushes see August 2010 issue of Golf+ page 78-81 project pages on my car. If you haven't a copy of this, then PM me your email addy and I'll whizz over the pdfs of these pages for reference. Cheers Sezza
  14. I'm cheating here, because I know it belongs to Liam at Motormode (Ninja Lemming) Gorgeous car in a gorgeous colour. You done good there Liam!! 25k mileage too and immaculate Bathursts... And Laser Blue really looks good on the GTI!! Hey Liam, I remembered that I had met you before when you had your red Lupo GTI in the petrol garage down Hadlow Road. Small world!
  15. Cool! You can't be shy then if you're buying that!! It's a real head turner...
  16. Ahhhh many thanks, will have to be patient and delicate the day I tackle this one then!
  17. Hello peeps, Does anyone know how to remove the centre console section where you have the windscreen vents then the central two vents with radio underneath. Also the side vents (passenger's and driver's) as I want to paint all of these sections. Fanks!
  18. Bear with me, don't know Essex too well (is that a good thing?!) but saw a fab looking lowered orange Lupo GTI with a guy driving as we were on the way towards Gosfield. If that's you, good colour choice!!
  19. Blimey, they're becoming like buses round where I live, see one Lupo GTI and then they all come out to play! Guy driving, pulling out of MoT place between dentist/Malcolms hairdressers along A20 Larkfield just before the Morrisons traffic lights. Black Lupo, huge front modded bumper, smoked lights, red badges, zoomed off in opposite direction in a plume of black smoke and noisy exhaust... I see ya
  20. Hi, Spotted you on Saturday evening driving along the A20 Larkfield in the direction of Maidstone, just before the burnt down Homebase! Waved madly, but don't think you saw. Was in my silver Lupo GTI...
  21. Hi there Does anyone know the measurements of B8 dampers for a Polo 6N? Long story, but fitted these to my Lupo GTI and the back now looks like it's sitting slightly higher than the front. So just wanted to check the length of the OE dampers compared to the B8s. Thanks
  22. Hi guys, I'm sure most of you have already gone down this route, so just wanted some advice really. Done some research and noticed that none of the big players such as Milltek do an aftermarket sports exhaust for the Lupo GTI. This model always seems to be missed off their VDub lists. Agghhh! So, I hear that maybe Bastuck, Janspeed might have an off the shelf one? Heard that custom made ones aren't a good idea as there's problems with back pressure? Has anyone had this issue? Also, would like to stick with the Lupo GTI's burble and a twin tailpipe, rather than a single exit like Scorpion's version... Any info/advice would be appreciated. Cheers Sezza
  23. Spotted a red Lupo GTI with rather clean Bathursts pulling out of a junction in Callander, Perthshire last Saturday. Couldn't take my Lupo GTI on our road trip to Scotland so we were in my mum's bright red Hyundai i20 and we waved at the guy driving. He probably thought we were completely nuts... Anyone on here?
  24. Don't know if its any consolation, but since I added my rear anti-roll bar and lowered the car by 30mm I also get a knocking noise from the front when I go over speed humps. I can't get to a workshop until the end of this month to check it out, so been using a different car in the interim...
  25. Thanks for all the suggestions. Tried Brentacre and they were the most expensive at £439, then Greenlight at £397, so I've gone for Sky Insurance at £395. Never heard of them before until a mate told me his E36 BMW drifter was insured with them...
