  1. Hmm, I disagree. I own the 6n Haynes manual with details on my engine (94-98) and of course while it provides details about my engine and routine maintenance it's outdated with regards to electricals etc. Does that mean I have to buy 2, or even 3 Haynes manuals to get a full picture of my Lupo? Because there's the 00-02 copy and the 01-05 copy I believe? Plus the Haynes manuals don't cover certain topics.
  2. First thing I'd say is stop driving it for the moment. If it's your oil pressure dropping, you will quickly **** up your engine and seize it up. Might be your bearings.
  3. No idea, but I've always assumed that induction kits are pretty useless on petrol cars. I was under the assumption that an induction kit on a petrol, isn't a straight swap and to get any kind of gains you need to look at remapping the ECU + potentially matching a good exhaust and air circulation system (?) On a diesel however, I've always been under the assumption that they can provide a huge improvement as manufacturers use the air box to try and filter out noise at the expense of performance. Never been bothered to fit one though lol! I imagine a diesel would sound like a massive tractor with an induction kit on.
  4. If you need any help PM me or ask in this thread. I intend to do a tutorial for this as it's a fairly straightforward job. Do not pay £100. You can pick a switch up for about 10 quid off eBay and fitting takes less than 2 minutes. One thing though, and I'm yet to find out which versions exactly, but apparently back when they were creating the Brake Light Switch for this car, VW apparently made four in the space of one year, because the first three they designed were prone to failure. The problem is I don't know what the model numbers are and whether they are floating around, so buying one off eBay you could end up with one of the duffers. That said, it's better than paying £100 quid in my opinion. The one I fitted to my previous Lupo cost £8 off eBay and lasted until the car was written off. That was only about 10k-15k miles though.
  5. From now on, any work I do, I'll try to record or photograph, or at least note, however there's a lot of jobs that should be noted on here by now and aren't
  6. If my brake light switch goes, I'll do a tutorial, but it's fairly straightforward. You just need to drop the piece of trim above the pedals and switch it. Maybe I'll do a tutorial demonstrating the removal and replacing of my own, with the one currently fitted lol!
  7. I'm going to make a DIY for Remote Central Locking. There really isn't one right now, plus the way to wire it in differs from post to post. Plus it's useful to compile different methods of wiring in to the indicators for example Pete91's method which uses the hazard switch instead of the wiring off the indicator stalk in the steering column
  8. hax0ring the raw value in the mySQL database
  9. I also have a Polo Haynes DIY manual. The tutorials we have are excellent but many of them are not that useful for the ordinary individual. We need tutorials that explain how to do ordinary tasks, such as changing headlight bulbs, fixing broken central locking mechanisms (something else I'm having to do from various other VW forums, and dribs and drabs from here), fixing seized up rear window washers. These are jobs that ordinary people might have to do. It wouldn't take long for us to compile a big list if people just wrote a 5 minute explanation of how they did what they did. Any photos or videos would be helpful too.
  10. Totally missed the point. Nothing new there though.
  11. It was bute, and it is a drug that is regularly prescribed to humans. What's more, the amount found in horse meat was so small that the whole discussion is completely redundant. A human would have to eat something like 600 bute laced pure-horsemeat-only burgers every day for quite a long time to experience any effects of it.
  12. This +1 The reason we historically didn't eat horse was to do with the fact it was a workers animal. We used horses as a mode of transportation and as a tool, as much as considering it an animal. They were a huge part of our development as a culture and we therefore refrained from using them as meat. While cows were workers too, their primary function in this world, was to breed and ultimately, become food. Cows are a very efficient source of food, far more than horse, but that's a discussion for another day.
  13. *sigh* I will write the ones I can write. Some of them, I can't because I haven't done the job. As you know (From our convo) I fitted the RCL the other day. It wasn't that hard. But I had to scramble around various threads to try and find certain info, and then PM you because I felt there wasn't enough information on certain issues. People from these forums do jobs every day on their Lupo, ranging from changing headlight bulbs to dismantling lock mechanisms, would it be that hard to write a quick 5 minute tutorial? You don't have to take photos. Sure, they're useful, but textual information alone is absolutely fine for most people.
  14. The horse meat scandal didn't surprise me one bit. I blame the supermarkets more than those who produced the meat. After all, it's the supermarkets who dictate what they want to pay for meat. I was surprised that in truth, those selling the produce don't really have a say. Supermarkets just say "we WILL pay you this, and if you don't like get the **** out of my office". No wonder corners were cut. It was bound to happen.
  15. Some of you may disagree with me on this, but as I was going through the Archive/How To, I realized that we seem to lack basic instructions for fairly fundamental tasks while being overloaded with 'vanity' tutorials so to speak. I'm not saying these are bad, I intend on writing one or two myself when I get chance (we need a proper one for RCL which I will write over the next few days), but it seems strange that we don't have a single tutorial for replacing a headlight bulb on a non-GTI Lupo. This isn't the easiest task in the world for a novice, yet there's not a single description on how to do it. Another one that's missing is how to replace a Brake Light Switch. Why? It's a really simple task, but not if you don't know where to look! I'm not suggesting that the current information isn't useful. I'm just saying perhaps we need to look at compiling more tutorials, on more basic subjects as well as more complicated. I'm expecting a load of abuse here or 30 "why don't you write them then" comments, but like I said, just an observation.
  16. Didn't Stan almost turn into one big giant pussy after becoming a vegetarian for a few days? Me thinks this is enough of a reason to continue eating horse meat.
  17. Most people change them every so often, but when I had my 1.0, I only changed them when I felt necessary. If the car became unresponsive or lumpy, then I would change the spark plugs. It only happened once in the space of about 50k miles but that has always been my trigger. If you change the plugs you may as well change the leads too, at least once anyway.
  18. If it's running lumpy, it could be your HT leads, not just your spark plugs

    LED Sightlights

Cool, I might give them a try. It was Mike I think who I saw get one from Hong Kong and they seemed pretty reasonable. I guess it's pot luck. I haven't worked out how to remove a sidelight yet, perhaps I should do that first
  20. Any of them really, even an OBD scanner will show up a fault for something like that, I promise. I use a cheap OBD scanner all the time and it's great for just ordinary fault finding. I use a cheap VAG-COM cable to change adaptation's etc. Something like this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-COM-USB-ODB2-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-409-1-OBD2-II-LEAD-/290849709876?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item43b7fe5f34 Will find you codes, plus allow you to access Meas. blocks and adaptations etc using the copy of VCDS-Lite they give you (I use one all the time), or even: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V1-5-Mini-Bluetooth-ELM327-OBD2-OBDII-OBD-II-Protocols-Auto-Diagnostic-Scanner-/290901195431?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item43bb0ffaa7 Is fine for just code reading. Again, I use one with the Android app Torque and it's helped me out a few times when I've been on the road. (the above two are legal) The only type of cheap VAG cable copy I don't recommend are these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vag-Com-Vcds-11-11-1990-2013-Hex-Can-Usb-Latest-FULL-2013-/271202831540?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f24f2ccb4 They're horribly overpriced and are using a hacked version of the software and are illegal. Ross-Tech clocked onto this (as you would) and put a verification tool into their recent software, so if you forget to turn your Internet off, the software (Even the hacked versions) can physically wipe the cable's eeprom. There's a big thing about it on various VW forums.

    LED Sightlights

That's a real shame, I imagine they're pretty bright. I'm thinking of going for the top set then. I'm not sure how bright they are either, but I figured the bottom one would be very bright, at least for a side light lol. Oh well, I'll live I still need to work out how to replace a side light lol!

    LED Sightlights

Been checking out some LED sidelights for the Lupo I know these will fit very nicely : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-New-Xenon-5SMD-LED-Side-Light-White-Bulb-T10-W5W-501-INTERIOR-EXTERIOR-Bulbs-/161020837001?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257d96fc89 But I imagine these will be brighter, but will they fit : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/42-LED-SMD-White-T10-W5W-501-194-168-192-Car-Signal-Side-Light-Bulb-Lamp-12V-/400458039483?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d3d28c0bb I quite like the second set but they are definitely bigger than the originals. Any advice ?
  24. With a bit of luck, it won't be the bracket ripped from the body as described by jeeprk, otherwise you'll need to get it welded and that'll cost a few quid. I'm hoping I get chance over the next day or two to record a tutorial for the heat shrink wrap fix which will be of some help I hope.
