Mike_M
The partition you are removing needs to be empty and also not the c:\ drive which is normally the default install drive for software.
jcarroll
Well one side is empty and the other is full, the empty side is the D drive so i can use it for my docs and music and leave c for the programsSound about right? Mike_M
sounds ok. remove the D:\ and then that space will bolt to the c:\
jcarroll
Ah ok, so by removing the name it turns it into just adds onto the c drive?
Silver!
You would be better moving your data to the D:\ and changing the default "My Documents" to that drive. This would mean that when you need to rebuild Windows on the C:\ you wont have to bother backing-up the data first. jcarroll
But wouldnt that affect the file paths?Windows is on C at the moment, what do you mean about rebuilding windows?
Silver!
Sorry re-install Windows. If you move the Documents folder by right clicking "Documents"; "Properties" and using the "Location" tab to "Move..." your Documents to the D:\ it will change the registry entries to match. If you get issues, you can reset it in the same manner back to default. All of our machines at work have the My Documents\Documents folder pointing to the network and we have no issues.Check your D:\ is big enough first. jcarroll
Ah ok, that makes more sense but im worried now that i have to install windows again. Can i not just move the bigger things, using that method, to the D drive? Silver!
It will move everything in your "Documents" folder and amend the registry paths so Windows and other applications can find them.I didin't say you had to re-install Windows now, but when you need to, or wish to in the future.
