Faraz
I discovered this morning that my coolant temperature seems to be working intermittently, so I rang my usual garage (normally very reasonable) and was quoted £70 fitted?!That seems excessive to me, I'm sure these sensors can be had for less than a tenner can't they? Assuming they are using genuine VW parts, is this reasonable? I've never fitted one of these to a Lupo, but fitted several to Mk2 Golfs over the years and it was just a 5 minute job. Do you have to drain the coolant in a Lupo GTi to change this sensor? Thanks
jon_273
They are £35 unfortunately from VW, and that's with discount (as of August). I was surprised at the price. Try andrew page, they will probably be a lot cheaper.
lupogtiboy
They are bit of a sod to do, as on the gti there is an oil sensor and multiplug in the way (which is a bugger to get off!) Its on the side of the cylinder head near the coil pack, should be a 4-pin plug onto a green sensor. You pull the plastic 'u' clamp out, and the sensor will just pull out of the housing. You will lose some coolant as its part of the thermostat housing, so get some to top up again. Also make sure you get the o-ring too, part numbers as follows:Sensor (4 pin green) - 059 919 501 A (£35 ish)O-Ring - N 903 168 02 (£1 ish)Coolant (G13) - G 013 A8 JM1 (£10.36 inc vat!)Not sure 100% on prices as i'm not at my usual workplace today, only price I definitely know is the coolant!!! Faraz
Thanks guys, I'll probably buy the sensor myself and save a bit of cash then. I'm already £500 lighter after a new clutch and starter motor!
