  1. Based in Rugby mate, however it is now provisionally sold pending collection at the weekend.
  2. As title, I have a used inlet cam and variable valve timing pulley which came off a low mileage AVY engine (~94k) in excellent condition. Camshaft only - £30 + postage VVT pulley only - £30 + postage Or both for £50 + postage
  3. As title, in good condition...from a standard ride height GTi so no scrapes! £30 Would prefer collection but can post if necessary.
  4. edit - Problem traced to suspected tensioner pulley
  5. Thanks for this lupogtiboy, I'm glad I asked before I went ahead and bought a Polo one! But £620 from VW!? That's obscene... I think I'll have to live with the rattle for a while then. I suppose trying to get one from a low mileage salvage Lupo GTi could be an option, would be a bit of a gamble though
  6. Morning all, I've noticed recently an intermittent rattle at approx. 2k RPM which I believe is coming from the front pipe flexi, or the catalytic converter. I've been trying to source a replacement CAT but can't seem to find anything listed for the Lupo. I've found this link, which lists for a Polo 1.6 16v, with an AVY/ARC engine... http://www.catalyticconvertershop.co.uk/catalytic_converters/VOLKSWAGEN_POLO/7686/details/ Can anybody confirm if this will fit the Lupo GTi? I assume the fitment will be ok, but is there likely to be any difference in the CAT itself, that might affect the emissions come MOT time? Appreciate any advice, or if anybody can recommend an alternative supplier...aside from VW of course. Thanks
  7. Well its interesting you say that as I read the code when the fault first appeared, which led me to the igniter on the drivers side so I thought the clock spring was the likely culprit. When I took the wheel off the clock spring broke in half and I noticed the ribbon was twisted inside. I re-organised the ribbon, put it back together and fitted it, expecting that I would come back to it once I'd sourced a replacement. Since then, the fault code hasn't returned so maybe it was just a loose connection somewhere?
  8. Hi, The airbag light on my GTi recently illuminated so I removed the steering wheel at the weekend to get a look at the clock spring. I've taken a part number off it - 1H0-959-653-E However I'm struggling to find that specific part. I've managed to find 1H0-959-653 and 1H0-959-653-B. Does anyone know what the E/B stands for, or if I can use the other part numbers? Thanks
  9. Now why didn't I think of that?! I mean there's no end of 2001 Lupo GTis floating around these days
  10. Hi everyone, The airbag light on my 2001 Lupo GTi illuminated a few days ago, and after trawling the forums I invested in an eBay code reader and checked the fault codes. The code that is flagging up relates to the Airbag Igniter, Drivers Side, which I'm led to believe the clock spring is the likely culprit. Can anybody help me with a part number or know which vehicles I can get a spare from? Thanks,
  11. Had a good look at my Lupo GTi as we passed in the slow traffic, so maybe a member here? Looked nice, lowered with black rims I think.
  12. Hi all, I recently had the clutch replaced in my Lupo GTi and since then the gear shifter doesnt feel quite as positive going into first, third, fifth or reverse. second, fourth and six are perfect, the shifter engages with a satisfying click but 1,3,5 doesn't feel like the gear stick is properly engaging (although it does select fine and doesnt pop out of gear or anything). I have attempted to reset the linkage by locking the gear stick with a 5mm drill bit, and then removing the slack out of the linkage at the gearbox, but I can't seem to improve it... its as if I've taken all the slack out of the cable and it still needs to be tighter. Am I doing something wrong, or could the cable have stretched while the clutch was being replaced? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
  13. Thanks guys, I'll probably buy the sensor myself and save a bit of cash then. I'm already £500 lighter after a new clutch and starter motor!
  14. I discovered this morning that my coolant temperature seems to be working intermittently, so I rang my usual garage (normally very reasonable) and was quoted £70 fitted?! That seems excessive to me, I'm sure these sensors can be had for less than a tenner can't they? Assuming they are using genuine VW parts, is this reasonable? I've never fitted one of these to a Lupo, but fitted several to Mk2 Golfs over the years and it was just a 5 minute job. Do you have to drain the coolant in a Lupo GTi to change this sensor? Thanks
  15. I have the same problem, my GTi had a 'fast road clutch' about 2 years ago according to the service history, but evidently it was cheap rubbish... considering I've driven it like miss daisy since I bought it last year. Symptoms I have are; difficulty pulling away smoothly, and clutch release bearing making a noise when clutch is depressed, which disappears when clutch is engaged. I can also feel a bit of resistance in the clutch pedal lately, and a bit of vibration coming through the pedal. I've self diagnosed the clutch/release bearing for my issue, but will be getting a second opinion from a garage in the next few days before tackling the job. The Sachs kit comes with everything you need, the clutch kit and release bearing. You shouldnt need to replace the slave/master cylinder, and in any case these can be replaced with the gearbox on (so not worth doing as a matter of course with a clutch change). My car is also only on 75k miles, so its probably a combination of being thrashed earlier in its life and poor quality parts being used, that has led to my clutch's untimely demise.
  16. I've had to concede defeat after meeting with the body shop, and numerous phone calls to customer care. Apparently they won't cover this at all under the corrosion warranty, as it's considered an 'external influence' due to the gutter infills rubbing the paint away in the channels, as opposed to the rust coming through from underneath. I tried to argue that this is clearly a design issue but no joy. They checked with VW to see if a goodwill payment could be made, but unfortunately they will only do this within 10 years, so if you have an 03- it might still be worth a try...
  17. Nice and low...spotted at approximately 1pm yesterday
  18. I've heard back from the bodyshop, after reviewing the photos they believe this is a corrosion issue as opposed to a paint issue (you dont say!) and they have asked me to take the car in on Friday afternoon for a closer look. Unfortunately, I'll be 3 days over my 12 year warranty by the time I get to the bodyshop...although if they do dispute this, I shall argue that my initial warranty claim was made last Friday, so a few days before the 12 year deadline.
  19. Why what? Why am I putting it back to standard? Because the single din looks terrible, the aftermarket JVC headunit is too bright and insists on flashing uncontrollably when the music is playing, and I prefer the 'stock' look. Plus this seems to be the cheapest double din option while maintaining the ability to play music from my iPod...unless I'm mistaken? Certainly not selling up...This car has way too much character. I'll be holding onto it ad infinitum, although granted it may be resigned to be one of my weekend toys eventually, It pains me to put so many miles on it commuting to work everyday.
  20. Hi all, I've recently acquired a Gamma stereo from eBay with CD player, as I am hoping to revert my GTi back to standard. The seller is supplying the headunit, CD player and a divider which goes between the 2. There is however no cage or otherwise to hold the stereo in the dash. Is this correct, that the stereo should just fit into the void once I remove the current single din and facia panel? Also, I'd like to maintain the ability to listen to my iPod, there is a number of 'connects2' kits on eBay such as: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181064775789?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D181064775789%26_rdc%3D1 Is this all I need, or can anyone recommend a better alternative? Thanks,
  21. I visited Listers VW in Leamington Spa on Friday to make a warranty claim on my GTi. It has the typical bubbling in the roof gutters, and since the car is currently 11 years and 360 days old, I thought I better get the claim in while it's just within the 12 year warranty. The guy at VW took a load of photos of the corrosion, and took several paint depth measurements on and around the roof. Worryingly, or perhaps not, his depth meter was recording 225-300 (microns?) everywhere on the roof except for the corroded areas which were showing as low as 100! I was told that VW's head office would make the judgement based on the evidence he sends to them, and if it is classed as a 'paint issue' then it won't be covered, but if it is deemed a 'corrosion issue' which it clearly is then it should be covered. After reading this thread I can't say I'm expecting an easy ride, but I won't be taking no for an answer...and wont be settling for a 'goodwill' payment as he kept referring to, they shouldn't offer a warranty if they're not going to honour it! I will report back what the outcome is...
  22. Yeah but 'howmanyleft' reckons 800 or so, and back in 2008 on page 1 of this thread someone quoted 625... So I don't know which is more accurate?
  23. Just added my 'Moon' to the vote. I'd be interested to know if anyone has an up-to-date guesstimate to how many Lupo GTis remain?
  24. Afternoon all, I've decided to throw some money at my Lupo, it's running superbly except for a few minor niggles, namely the starter motor running-on after start up, and the bearings in the alternator providing an intermittent whistle whilst driving. I've had a look on Euro Car Parts, as historically I have always bought spares from there, and they list Bosch and RTX parts. The RTX parts are significantly cheaper, does anybody have any experience with them, good or bad? Alternatively, can anybody recommend an alternative supplier aside from Euro to supply a Starter Motor and Alternator? I appreciate the help. Regards
  25. Seen a Silver GTi (almost as mint as mine) for the last few weeks as I drive into Rugby on my way home, its always heading out of town, via Newbold. Always seem to cross paths at the same turn, regardless of what time I leave work!? Female driver too...
