What's my Lupo worth now?

Hey, haven't posted on the forum in a while but I am looking to sell my Lupo.

It's a 1.4 16v S, I was showing a friend round the car when it suddenly started to increase temperature and steam started to come out from the coolant bottle.

I took it to my usual garage today and the mechanic thinks the fan wiring had gone and caused the head gasket to go too!

I've attached a live wire straight to the fan so it's constantly running and took the Lupo for a spin, doesn't seem to be overheating much over the normal temperature. The fan isn't spinning as much as it would normally so maybe a new fan+wiring would sort it?

Anyone got any ideas?

How much would my Lupo be worth with it needing a new fan and head gasket?

One of the mechanics said he'd have it off me to put his 1.8 20vt in so I could cut my losses and sell it to him cheap, or fix it all and end up spending a fortune?

HELP.

sorry should probably have added that originally!

he said for that it'd be around £500 which for that money I might as well get a new engine fitted as mine has already done 120,000.

he didn't say as he has no idea what it's worth, so I said I'd ask you guys on the forum and let him know, the garage is small independent one and family friends that have always worked on our cars so don't wanna mug anyone off with price.

the car is in good condition, had loads of prior work done to it. here's the advert: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?app=classifieds&module=core&do=view_item&item_id=863

I would sell it to him but I had no idea what it's worth when it's needing this work.

I've just checked my head gasket through all the usual looking for white mayo or any dirty water but it all looks sound, had it running for 15minutes and didn't overheat and all the blowers ran hot. About to try taking the coolant tank lid off and squeezing the radiator pipe to see if boiling water comes through.

The only thing that's missing is the fan coming on, maybe it's just the fan wiring that's gone? Could that be what is causing the problem?

It works when I attach a live wire straight from the battery to the fan.

but is it loosing water? and maybe oil?

not losing water, apart from when it boiled out as steam yesterday.

no oil loss either.

Get a compression test done, should give you an idea if the HG has gone.

I'll give that a go mate, cheers!
