RobLUPO
Okay so basically at the moment my dad is driving the lupo full time and he doesn't want a sub-woofer installed. So I'm trying to create a system that would provide high quality audio for the time being. (Sub will be put in at a later stage when I drive it full time). This is what I have come up with: Sony MEX-BT2700 Headunit (From my old car) 4x Vibe Slick 6" Component speakers (90w RMS @4ohms) - 2 in the front and 2 in the back. (How hard is it to install the tweeters in a lupo?)Clicky LINK Vibe Slick A1 amplifier (4x75w RMS @4ohms) Clicky LINKJust wondering what everyone's opinions on this is and also what would be the best wiring kit to get for this? Brammo
Although Vibe have come along way over the last couple of years. If you are going for a high quality system then I would opt for either Rainbow, Focal or maybe a set of Jl. Don't buy 2 sets of components instead spend the money you would have spent on one set. The tweeters can be the biggest ball ache you have ever experienced but you will get there after a lot of fiddling. Also spend some money on sound deadening as it really improves the quality. If I was to only get 2 component speakers surely while the sound quality from those two would be better but the "whole effect" would be less?Or would the top quality 2 components + sub more than make up for that? Thanks, RobEdit: Just had a look at the brands you recommend, the only thing is its a bit too pricy for me . But would you defiantly recommend 2xbetter quality components rather than 4xmid quality components? Edited June 19, 2011 by RobLUPO
Brammo
Yeah definitely one set of components. It will all make sense when you have the sub woofer as well.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/focal-polyglass-165-vb.htmlhttp://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-he2.htmlFor a good sound I would go for the above.Ring up the number from that website. All of the people there are really helpful they will also give you a discount if you ask nicely, which will mean you might get the above items for around 200 pounds which isn't a lot for a great sound. I know it is quite expensive but wouldn't you rather save that little bit longer and have a nice sized smile on your face when you turn up the volume than a feel of disappointment? Reading some reviews it seems the Vibes are seen as quite harsh at the top end, whereas the Focals seem to be solid all around. It seems Halfords are selling the spec down in the Focal range, the Focal Access ones but with a 15% discount at the moment. That means I could a pick up a set for £80. LINKThen hooking them up to: LINK Since I'm on a student budget the £60 saved makes quite a difference . Would you recommend them (at that price) or would you still go for the focal polyglass + hertz? Also they seem to have quite low RMS in comparison to other brands at that price, I'm guessing this is because they focus on SQ instead of pure volume? Brammo
If I was you I would give the guys a ring at car audio because they will probably be able to answer your questions better than me. They will also be able to give you your best for your budget. I am also a student and I was in your situation. I decided to save for an Audison SRX2s http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/classifieds/28529-fs-audison-srx2s.htmlWhich I then coupled to a set of Rainbows. I can honestly say I have never missed that extra bit of cash. It's not a competition sound system but none of my friends have ever heard anything like it. Go on treat yourself. Decided that I may as well save up for a decent SQ install as I don't desperately need to upgrade the sound atm. This is what I'm going to save for. Focal Polyglass 165 VB (Running at 70w RMS)JL Audio JX360/4 (3/4 channel bridged for sub)JL Audio 12WX (Running at 180w RMS) + Sound deadening behind door panels. That seems to be a good quality set up & since the lupo is small it won't need an over powerful sub to get some good bass.
Brammo
Get a mono block for your sub mate 2 channel at most.
