MARKY46
Hi folksHas anyone out there ever managed to successfully replace the main bearings on their 1.4 16v engines??I'm hearing that it is not possible to replace the main bearings as it upsets things with the block. Has anyone managed to get round this and if so how?? If it's not possible to replace the main bearings, what are the options available from the dealers?? Do they offer short engines and if so what kind of price are we talking about??Thanks in advance for all replies and opinions...
CasperGTI
Are we talking about the ally block 1.4 16v's? I don't think ive seen anyone do it on here.Id guess you could re shell it, but it would probably need line honing afterwards? I don't actually know what happens to the block when you remove the crank, all we know is it "distorts"John
MARKY46
Yes, I'm talking about the ally block engine. I'm struggling to find a replacement engine and investigating all options.Any ideas what options are available at the dealers?? It looks like main bearing failure on my current engine. 99hjhm
It comes as a short block from the dealer. If it's a failed main bearing, it's probably spun and ****ed the block anyway.
