  1. Anyone any ideas of a price from dealer for a short block as mentioned above??
  2. Yes, I'm talking about the ally block engine. I'm struggling to find a replacement engine and investigating all options. Any ideas what options are available at the dealers?? It looks like main bearing failure on my current engine.
  3. Hi folks Has anyone out there ever managed to successfully replace the main bearings on their 1.4 16v engines?? I'm hearing that it is not possible to replace the main bearings as it upsets things with the block. Has anyone managed to get round this and if so how?? If it's not possible to replace the main bearings, what are the options available from the dealers?? Do they offer short engines and if so what kind of price are we talking about?? Thanks in advance for all replies and opinions...
  4. I'm not disputing that the BBY engine was never in the Lupo but from what I've seen you can't replace the AHW engine with one as there are differences. What I'm looking to find out is if the AUA can replace the AHW. I've been told above that it can but has anyone out there actually done it and if so, what do I need to know about where the AUA engine comes from as per the questions I was asking Norpan in the above reply?? Please help.....
  5. Is there no one out there that can help me??
  6. Hi folks Once again, can anyone give me a 100% confirmation that the AUA engine is a straight swap for the AHW engine as per the prevoius post above?? Thanks again in advance...
  7. I'm in the same boat. Already tried another AHW but the starter motor was in the wrong position and tried a BBY but that just didn't look right at all. Now looking at the AUA and want to know how you got on with yours??? Things are getting desperate now and I'm really struggling...
  8. Has anyone out there replaced an AHW engine with and AUA engine???
  9. Thats great info. Thanks I'm in the process just now of looking for an AUA engine but there are a few things I'd like to know?? Are you 100% positive that the AUA engine with be a straight forward swap with no fitting/mounting problems except for the req'd blanking plate?? Does the AUA engine need to come out of a Lupo or will any AUA engine be alright to fit?? Is there a particular year of engine that I would need to get?? Does it matter about the gearbox whether its manual or automatic?? Thanks once again in advance...
  10. BBY is not an option for replacing the AHW engine. It's completely different. Is the AUA an option?? Anyone out there swapped an AHW with an AUA??
  11. Has anyone got anymore thoughts, opinions on fitting an AUA engine as a replacement for an AHW engine?? Does anyone have any ideas what the name of the part that Norpan speaks about above that I would need to get from the dealer??
  12. Thanks for the reply Norpan Thats very interesting what you have said as it would appear to be completely different to what I read on the below post. http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=48066 I'm getting now that I don't know what option is best!!! Is there anyone out there who has successfully managed to transplant either a AUA or a BBY engine into a Lupo that originally had a AHW engine?? All replies greatly appreciated...
  13. Anyone with any thoughts to this??
  14. Is there a difference with the BBY engines?? I've found a replacement AHW engine for my car but the starter motor was in the wrong position, at the front instead of the back, and I was wondering if this is the same with the BBY engine and if so, how do you determine which BBY engine will go into my Lupo?? Is there a difference in codes?? A friend will be getting me the engine from his contacts in the south of England and we are in Glasgow and he won't be able to see the engine before he gets it so all info will be helpful. Regards...
  15. Hi there. So here is my problem My current AHW engine in my Lupo 1.4s has expired and needs replaced. I managed to find a replacement AHW engine but found that the starter motor location was at the front of the engine and the starter position on my engine is at the back. I have since found out that although I have found an AHW engine, there is a difference with it in that there would appear to be two types of AHW engine. One that was fitted to the Lupo/Polo and has the starter at the back, and one that was fitted to the Golf and has the starter at the front!!! Both are known as AHW engines!!! Now here is the main question. I have read elsewhere on this forum that the best engine to replace the ageing AHW engine with is the BBY engine. What I would like to find out is if this engine is the same as the AHW in that there are two different types, one with starter at back like I need and one with starter at the front?? And if this is the case, how are they distinguished from each other?? Surely there must be a difference to the codes or something so you know what each engine is designated for?? I'm not going to be able to see the engine before purchase so need to know if there is a way to tell which BBY is for the Lupo. All help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all replies.....
  16. Thought about that but decided against as you don't really know what history the engine will have and you don't get any warranty with a breaker. Hence the reason I was looking for someone to maybe recommend somewhere that I could get a good secondhand/ reconditioned engine from??
  17. Hi folks I'm looking for a replacement engine for a Lupo 1.4S. Does anyone either have one or can recommend somewhere where I can get a reconditioned one for a reasonable price?? The engine type I'm looking for is an AHW. If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all help with this matter...
  18. Forgot to mention, it's a 1.4S Lupo I'm working on at the moment.....
  19. Hi folks How exactly does the oil breather pipe remove from the crankcase?? Busy doing the timing belt and water pump and noticed the familiar gunk in the hose when I removed it form the air filter housing. Also noticed that the pipe seems to have sucked in on itself so I'm going to replace it. Didn't get good chance to have a look at how it connects to the crank case but I couldn't see any noticable clamps or clips holding it on. Does it just push on or is it held in some other way?? Thanks in advance for your help folks...
  20. Thanks Swoxy. Good advice there. Anyone else out there with anything else to add??
  21. Hi there I wonder if anyone out there can help me out?? I am currently looking to purchase a Lupo in the not too distant future and I was wondering if anyone out there can pass on any advice with regards to anything I need to look out for when looking at potential cars. The car I am thinking about is the 1.4S model. Is there any known problems involved with the Lupo in general or are there any particular areas I need to be aware of, ie rust areas anywhere, problems with the engines, problems with anything mechanical, etc, etc. Any advice on what to look out for is more than welcome and I look forward to hearing from anyone who can pass on any information. Thanks in advance Mark.
