Try this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lanzar-Channel-Stereo-Amplifier-1000w/dp/B003CN5NTA/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1298814876&sr=1-1

I have a 12" Audiobahn sub running off it. It's tiny which makes it very practical (you can hold the whole thing in one hand comfortably), it doesn't heat up too much and has plenty of power.

I've done the same as you're wanting to do. I'll get some pictures up later :)

Depends what you want really. JL are known for fantastic quality. JBL are normally good for strong bass. The main thing is that you look in the catalogue find out what the optimal box dimensions are and then build that box. Remember sealed a sealed box will deliver sharp deep bass notes where as a ported box is good for LOUDNESS. I have a 10" alpine type R in my boot powered by an mrp-m650 and that kicks like no ones business it's not the best but it is awesome.
