wistle down the lipo

Hi all.

my daughter has just bought a 1999 v reg lupo 1.0 as her first car :D cool eh?

however we have a problem, the car has a non VW radio.cd player fitted.

we get a constant high pitch squeal from the speakers ,

i have done some checking and been told its a "Gala wire" causing the noise.

apparantly (when a vw radio is fitted)the Gala wire turns the radio volume up

to match higher engine revs and likewise as you slow down the volume creeps back down,

its only a sutble change ,however when a non standard cd / radio is fitted then you

get a high pitch squeal thro the speakers which is also speed related.

SO ............ :angry2:

HOW THE BLOODY ELL do you get round it, there must be a easy mod  ?

as the standard Radio is C**p, how do we bye-pass this problem?,

i presume its a relay or small unit on stereo loom .

if its a VW part does any one have a part number for mod?

its probably been asked before but we are new to VW`s

so thanks for your help in advance

Tar

I don't actually own a lupo yet so am not familiar with this "Gala wire"

However I did get a squeeling sound in my Ibiza which got louder with the revs, this was due to a bad earth, may be worth checking out?

HI,

NO its not an earth i have checked,

Having rung a dealer and and confirmed the Gala Lead,

but could only suggest fitting a VW stereo to cure it £££££.nice eh.

Yes it is speed related, as i said as you slow down the wistle tapers off and accelerate it

gets louder. And its bloody loud , like near ear splitting when driving.

an earth fault tends to wistle thro the speakers with engine revs and is not car speed related,

come on some one must have come a way to get round this problem i going deaf!!!.

thanks again.

If you've tracked the problem down to the GALA function then this must be wired into the radio incorrectly. You can find a diagram of the standard VW connections here: Gamma Connections, so all you need to do is to find the GALA wire on the car side of the adaptor and remove it so that it's disconnected from the radio.

Hopefully this will remove the interference and make your car a little quieter!
