Tigz™
Best? Its a matter of opinion really buddy. But if I had £300 to spend this is where my money would go.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=3132This woul leave you enough for a wireing adaptor.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=1305

Adam
thats quite a nice one, how good are the pioneer ones? i also found this sony one which is a little over my budget, but i just dont know if i would use it to the best of its abilities, but it looks so nice!http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.as...p?product=19634orhttp://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.as...p?product=19417what you think>? Tigz™
Put it this way mate.I would rather keep the standard headunit over any Sony in car product.Pionner are very good.As I said earlier, theres not much in it with headunits today. So long as it plays MP3 and WMA and has a good rep for long lasting equipments (my headunits a couple of years old now, and other than a sticking loader every now and again, never had a problem)If you like Pionner how about these?Love this headunithttp://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=2381Or something a little more flashy.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=3258
Tigz™
Although if I was to buy a headunit today I think this is what I would be looking at http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=3677
Adam
both of them pioneer ones are very nice, i like the idea of updating the images on the second one you listed, thats quite cool and the 60w output is very good! im meant to be choosing one for christmas and i just cant make up my mind, im leaving it a bit late now! Tigz™
Just remember the 60w quoted isnt RMS your looking at around 17wrms which is pretty pants. And the fact that to get that sort of power from such a small amp takes a lot of work, so the little amp can get very hot.A smaller internal amp supprisenly can sound better than a higher powered one.Make sure what every you have has a high pass filter built it, as you'll wanna cut out everything below about 80hz

Adam
i found this head unit on ebay, it seems pretty cool!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...5736828744&rd=1what you think?
tshirt2k
a friend of mine has one of these. he paid a grand for it. its good but for that money you could a whole system.
Adam
that one on `e-bay` is only 295 pound though, but im unsure about buying a 1000 pound piece of kit for 300, surely there must be a catch?! reallistically i would probably go for the second pioneer one tigz posted, as i used to have a pioneer h.u with an oel display in my polo and i thought it was great. Tigz™
Unless you are wanting a computer/ps2/Xbox etc then you would be better with a simple headunit.Screens are ok, but theres more things to go wrong with them. And once the screens gone, I dont think any other part of the headunit would work correctly. Snoopy
TFT displays are actually surprisingly resilient - the backlight is the most likely thing to break (assuming it's not dropped or something, of course!), but even that's pretty unlikely. The motorised part, especially of cheaper screens, is a big failure point though. Adam
i think i may just stick with the pioneer headunit with oel display. i dont wanna fork out `600-700` for a screen and im not sure about 300 for that one on ebay, apparently its brand new, but why would it be so cheap? Tigz™
Well a audio gear normally goes for half its price when bought used.New but no warrenty normally goes around 2/3s the price.
Adam
so it could well be used and with no warrenty? i may steer clear of that, i cant afford to pay 300 quid for something to break 3months down the line and have to fork out the cash myself to get it sorted. plus if i am correct what stops some1 from breakin into your car and stealing the hole unit? i know they could do that with a face off unit, but then they wouldnt have the face of the player so there is no point. but with one of these its all there, or do they have a bit that detaches which acts like a key, a bit like the ford head units? Tigz™
Im not saying thats what it is with this one Adam.I dont know much about these motorised screens.Im sure Snoop may know about it.
Adam
no probs mate, another question i have, am i right in thinking with these mp3 head unit i could put a dvd with like 4.5 gb of music into it? or does it depend on what the spec of the head unit is?
Tigz™
No mate. You'd need a DVD player for that. And it would also have to be able to shift through the folders.Ive never seen/noticed anything that can do that.Although someone may have?I would have thought it may be a little slow to actually work well in a car. (This is just my thoughts, I have nothing to back it up, and may be wrong)This type of thing would be a better way of storeing lots of music.QUOTE(Tigz)Although if I was to buy a headunit today I think this is what I would be looking at http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=3677
Adam
that is a very clever head unit! the pioneer `PIO-DEHP80MP` (the second one you posted) states that it can search through folders of music that are on the disc, which sounds very good to me. its better than having to memorise what you have on your cd or can all mp3 players do this? boy i am crap at this head unit stuff! im an old skool single slot cd type of lad! lol
Tigz™
Diffrent head units can do diffrent types of searches.A sony and JVC search is shockenly bad.An Alpine is pretty good, although still not great.Ive never used a Pionner headunit, so Im not the best person to comment on the operation of one.If your not in a rush, it could be a good idea to take a MP3 disk to your local Halfords and have a play with the diffrent mp3 players they have and see what you think to the searches. You'll soon learn what tracks are wear buddy.I have about 80 Albums in the var, but could still sing the first line of the next track when listening to another lol
Adam
lol, you have a very good memory then! btw thats a great idea about taking a disc up and trying it on the head units, cheers for you help.
