Rudaz
hi, ive done a serch and found a few things but not loads, went to check oil level 2day and bonnet will not pop open. i always thought it was a bit stiff to open (felt like i was going to pull the lever off!) but now it just isnt doing anything, just want to see if anyone has experienced this or has an idea how i can open it. pretty sure ive got about 0.3l of washer fluid in too =] so could do with filling it up asap.thanks =]
Frankie
If you do get seriousy stuck i think that if you pull the vw badge off and get into the bolts that hold the catch onto the slam panel, u can at least lift it and get in to have a look. Philplop
If it's the cable that's snapped then you can lie underneath, reach up and pull the cable with your hand. Before you try that though, remove the handle in the car and see if the cable has come undone from it, if it has (or even if it hasn't) give it a pull with some pliers. If it's the catch that's seized, it's trickier, need to remove the badge, loosen off two bolts that are a pig to get to with a bendy socket attachment so you can open the bonnet slightly, then get a big screwdriver in to lever the catch. Then soak the lot in plenty of WD40!
Rudaz
spot on, the cable had popped out of the 'twin connector' that joins the two, managed to grab the wire from underneath (just) with my short arms and jobs a good en. tightened up the handle while i was there and now popping the bonnet feels better than ever and doesnt feel like anything is going to snap thanks for the help guys Edited December 29, 2009 by Rudaz
NOCK
managed to grab the wire from underneathDid you have to jack the car up to do this?
Rudaz
yea, but only because the cars lowered, would have thought standard springs would be raised enough to let me get my arm up and underneath
NOCK
Okay, I will try tomorrow as I have a non-opening bonnet too. Can you remember where this twin connector is that you speak of?
Rudaz
stick your hand up in the left hand side (if your looking head on at the car) the wire is right up at the top, pull it to pop the bonnet. once its open follow that wire back as if its going into the car from the engine bay and you will see the connector, its like a black sleeve that goes over two ends of wire (cant miss it).saying that, that was my problem, thats not to say that is what will be wrong with yours, try all the things that Philplop says to do and one of them will be the cause hope this helpsdanny
