Hey Guys, Im thinking about buying another Lupo Gti.

A few Questions Though,

*Does the engine have any type of VVT. Im sure it does but can't be sure

*The car Im looking at has 90k FVWSH, Is there any common issue's I should be looking out for

At this sorta milage?

*The wheels need to Be Refurbed/Resprayed, Is there anywhere In the Edinburgh Area that I could

get this done for a reasonable price.

*The one Im looking at is a 2001/51 In Red, Not Sure if this is Flash or Tornado?

Which Is the more preferred colour.

Can't think of anything else though any other Info would be much appreciated.

Thanks In Advance :)

VVT... Yes

90,000.... How many cam belts has it had?

Check the paint code under the boot carpet to check colour code.

As far as I know it's had a Cambelt/Tensioner change at 70k!

I know the service schedule says at 40k though!

So either really late or Early

VW actually recommend to change them 20k after it is changed, however, based on the normal 40k/4 years, you should have a lot more life left in it.

Every 20k after the original 40k cambelt change :o

A Bit pricey!

Do alot of owners follow this or is every 40k pretty safe?

for that millage mechanically speaking i would imagine the only negatives would be worn suspension bushes, persihed ARB bushes. and disintergrating bump stops (sh!t) etc, VW rubber components dont last forever. The engine just seems to bed in around that millage they loose hardly any power over their millage and the VVT is subtle but noticable kicking in at around 4500rpm keep the revs over 5k and the engine is very keen.

the cambelt being done is usefull but also give the water pump a check too as its usually a good idea to change that too at the time. if the starter motor doesnt whine when you turn the engine over your onto a winner.
