Wear and Tear????

Recommended Posts

Give me both mate, and the name of each if you have it?

I may ask them to send the bearings and I'll have them checked out by IVI.

Thanks Tigz!

Garage is; Nationwide Autocentre, Weston-Super-Mare 01934 612 368 - Been speaking with "Dave"

Gearbox Specialist is; Gloucester Road Gearboxes, Bristol 0117 954 1424

Gloucester Rad said they are really badly pitted :( and it's clear that it's wear and tear. But as I said, your help is greatly appreciated

Ok.

Spoke to the the gearbox guy, he has all the parts there so has suggested we can take them away for independant tests.

Spoke to Dave (dont like him one bit) they have a rebuilt gearbox awaiting to be fitted to your car.

Asked him who has authorised they get the box rebuilt, he thinks that is irrelivent.

The way this game works is they give you an estimate, you agree you will pay it and then they order the parts.

they have all the parts already!

OK.

Plan, are you with the AA or the RAC?

If so both these companys offer an indepent service to inspect items such of this on your behalf and give there opinion on if it is wear and tear.

These two companies are the cheapest and would be your first option.

Your second option after that is trading standards, these companies poo in their pants when TS get involved.

Once that fails I do have a 'propper' inspection company, but these cost mega bucks so are a final resort really.

No one can honestly say that a 30k mile gearbox bearing is worn out.

If its pitted this early on, IMO it has failed.

You defenatly have a case, and I would fight this to the end if it was me.

If you lose out, I defenatly wouldnt let this dodgy garage do the work.

I would tell them you want your gearbox and car back, and you will get it fitted elsewhere (I have a company nearby I use alot, Im sure I can ask a favour of them)

You havent agreed to let them rebuild the box so they can not force you into having it repaired.

I will write a letter for you if it comes to that.

Im leaving work now, so send me an email rather than the forum as its easier for me to reply.
