Anybody know how to remove the gearknob? - Just a quick Q for the interior experts!

How do I get the damn thing off?

I start from the bottom, taking the gaiter off, but I cant actually get the gearknob itself off? How is it attached to darn shaft?

on my polo its quite easy, robin over at porka has put in a polo gti knob and gaitor to his and I have got a knob off the beeza

like you did, pull up the gaitor

you will see a metal clip on the end of the gear knob, pry that off, and pull knob up

in mine, I just pull the knob up without having to undo the clip

hope its not glued on. my fiesta si gear knob was glued on i had to saw off the rubber knob! dont force it you will feck up the linkage.

Indeed it is. I took my replacement knob back to Hellfords and got m £££ back. Just not worth the agravation. Plus, if you dont get a gear knob thats the same size at the bootom, your left with a dirty great ring of metal showing. Not the effect I wanted.

Has any one done a job on there *knobs* style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> .... na on a more serious note, is it really a hassle, or can it be done?

My gearknob lifted off on its own accord last week it was only three weeks old. VW dealer said it wasa clip not attached properly at factory. Anyway that aside the cars been great.

you just need brute force, if its tight and over glued on the thread then it would need unscrewing with molegrips or something. thats for nobs in general not specificly for lupo nobs.
