Service and MOT

Hi my MOT is due in April and as I have had my Lupo since last August I think it needs a full service as well, I was wondering if it's best to go to a main dealer or if my usual small garage would do just as good a job on it and probably cost a lot less!! The garage I bought it from replaced the pedal box as it failed within 3 months of me getting the car, but I think the gears and clutch could be a lot smoother and thought I should probablyput it to the main dealer, what do other members recommend?

I just had my 3rd service and first MOT done at a main dealer.

It cost £197 all together. £50 of that was for the MOT.

Just to give you an idea on dealership prices.

Thats not bad, mine needs a service, i was thinking about going to the dealer to keep up the SSH, think ill go get a price.

Just got a quote from main dealer for a full service £285 or a lesser service £185 MOT will be another £50 on top, have to find out from garage where I bought the car what they did when they last serviced it as they only stamped the service book and didn't tick the boxes, suspect they never did anything so will need a full service, is the price quoted reasonable or should I try elsewhere!

local garage charges £35 so I know the're a bit more expensive but how much more expensive are they with the service? is it worth the extra just to have a main dealer do the same work?

Seems quite expensive to me, i got a quite for my TDi from Seat, it was £180 for a 4 year 40K service, + £35 for brake fluid change.

So seems reasonable compared to your quote.

If you car has got full VW service history then it might be a good idea to go with the dealer. Although if it hasnt then dont bother.

My main dealer used to charge between £180 and £285 for a services then £50 on top for the MOT. I needed my cambelt doing this time as the dealer did not do it at 4 years so I asked for a quote. The quote was between £660 and £720. I rang round and found a small VW & Audi specialist garage only 10mins away from me and they quoted £365 for a service and MOT plus cambelt change. Who do you think I picked???

It actually cost me £490 in the end as I needed my front discs changing as they were badly corroded and it failed its MOT on that but still cheaper than the dealer I brought the car from!
