Crusoe
Checking my dip stick this moring and i'm getting a bit low, flicked through the manual but it seems to only give VW part numbers for the oil to use, do i have to buy VW oil or does anyone know the viscosity and whether it is fully synthetic or not? Only need half a litre so can't be arsed going to the stealer (even though mine has been good so far).Cheers peeps.
BigMon
When my car was last serviced (at Plymouth VW) they used Castrol Magnatec. Not sure of the viscosity or whether it was synth, `semi-synth` though. Will have a look tonight and post back if `no-one` else has. twisty b-road
You need a synthetic multi grade `10W-40`, VW 500 00.I use Castrol GTX Magnatec, which says on the back is compatible with the above VW codeHave since found out my stealer sells it cheaper than Halfords do. twisty b-road
My engine knocked back the oil in the first 5000 miles. Consumption has dropped off since.
LINCOLNSHIRESLUPOGTI
Yeah mine too Twisty. I had to `top-up` before the 10,000 mile service. Never used a drop since then though.Oh yeah in answer to the original question i just use the semi sythetic VW stuff. Quantum is it called...it has list of manufacturers on the back and it includes stuff like Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc. If its good enough for them... RobinA3
i used to take my own engine oil when the car went for a service, i used mobil 1, but then once the car got a wee bit older and had like 50k on the clock i used the vw stuff as it is thicker which is better for high mileage engines, the car is now on 74k and its 4yrs old!
