Az_zA
Hi, ok so heres the story....Just been down the local shop and when i came out and went to drive home, i noticed that the rev meter was reading higher than it should.I checked i was in right gear etc, and so i went back home and when i turned off the car, instead of the rev meter going back down to zero, it has gone down to about the 1500 rpm mark. So basically the rev meter is reading 1500rpm too high.Anyone know what the problem could be, how its been caused and how to fix it?thanks in advance!AzzA

My_Names_Buck
thank you! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />sorry, just rushed into making a post without searching style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />Lol. it was me, mitch's help was very good. just a couple of corrections to his instructions.1. pull the outer binnacle forward out of the clips (NEED TO UNDO TWO SCREWS UNDER THE ARCHED BITS)2. the inner binnacle is held in with 3 torx bits (TWO TORX BITS I FOUND)3 the clocks have 3 torx along the top (THERE WERE FOUR)4 disconect the battery wait 30mins, unplug the purple and the blue multiplug (GREEN AND BLUE)5 dissasemble the rear from the clocks again torx bits until it seperates open 6 gently pull the needle out using the centre piece as a place to grip (DIDN'T NEED TO JUST SWIVELED IT BACK ROUND)7 place back on in its correct position.strange it hadn't like come off the spindle or anything. It just hadn't like gone back down all the way. gentley pushed it back and it has so far been fine.Strange why it should do it in the first place though. anyone got any ideas?Sam. Jonny
I used to be able to reset my rev counter by turning the ignition on and off, every time I did this the needle went down until it was at zero.
Az_zA
Thanks for input guys, just need to get round to doing it. The counter has gone down slightly from the other day, but its still sitting at just under 1000rpm when turned off
tuffers
If you have a vag-com cable you can use VW tools software and reset/test the clock dials and lights.
