  1. The block seems to be the same as a MK3 TDI engine code ALH.

    1.4 tdi

Bit of a stupid comment. Im probably wrong about the spool up part of it, but as my ecu is not gonna be controling the turbo i need something to kill the boost whilst im setting up the boost controller.

    1.4 tdi

Ive got a electronic dump valve. Brought it for 100 quid off ebay, second hand. I want it for a backup to prevent over boosting. Should help for a quicker spool up of the turbo between gear shifts. I thought the main reason of a dump valve is get rid of the left over hot compressed air. The longer it stays comepressed in the pipework the hotter it gets. So it would make sense to be a benefit to both diesels and petrols. Diesels dont have them because they dont produce vacuum. The tdi club FAQ on BOV's is a little out of date i think. They refer to fact that it cant be done more than being useless.
  4. Hiya mark Still not done style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> , changed jobs beginning of the year and not got alot of time. Got all the parts i need except for intercooler pipes and exhaust. Im hoping to buy a cheap car early next year and get mine off the road properly. Cheers.
  5. 109 Relay. It powers the ecu and fueling. Situated behind the fuse box. Have a look, if its a black relay then its the old version which has a solder problem. What Year is your car.? If you or the garage plug vagcom they wont get a code because the fault is power to the ecu, so when the fault occurs it wont store fault code. Eventually the relay will fail all together. Pretty sure this is your problem cause i had it. Very dangerous huh driving along then all of a sudden lose power to brakes and steering. ahhhhh. Its an awkward job. Remove the bottom panel under fuse box so you can get your hand in. Then un hook the fuse board so you can move it aside, you should see the relay with 109 in big letters. I dont have the part number to hand but its the same relay for all vw diesels and any dealer should know what you want. Make sure its the grey. 12.95 + vat. good luck.
  6. I Keep threatening to turbo my sdi, just not got around to it yet. Sourced a lot of info and parts over the past year. Just a few bits and some balls to go and its gonna happen.
  7. Go to your local pet store, buy one male and one female rat and pop them through his letterbox. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  10. If you have a vag-com cable you can use VW tools software and reset/test the clock dials and lights.

    TDI Problems!!

Geniune MAF of cheaper alternative? Whats the symptons of your problem? I helped replace a maf on friends passat and he opted for a cheap maf, and the fault that i put the problem down to comes back sometimes. Next gonna replace the map?? sensor i think. Anyway if you have no luck with getting vag-com your welcome to use mine.
  12. My reply from haynes. Dear Sir/Madam Thank you for your email. Unfortunately there need to be over 75,000 vehicles sold in the UK before it is viable for us to make a manual. But if you provide me with the engine size, engine code and the year of your vehicle we can tell you if we have anything to cover the engine. Kind regards Vicky Hall Customer Services Coordinator
  13. Yeah could be. Do you have vag com? or find out if anyone near you has it. Where ya from?
  14. Complete tossers. Had an incident recently, woke up at 3am to 6 lads running down our street smashing the cars up with iron bars. Luckily for me, my car was parked out of thier path of destruction. I wanted to go out and run them over but my gf is the sensible one and stopped me. Ive often thought catching the scum bags, at least on video. Using a wireless cam send the video into my home each night. Problems would be power supply, but im sure someone could work out a solution. Considered some night vision pinhole cameras and a recording device in the car but starts to become too expensive. Anyway good luck getting the car sorted noddy.
  15. I would imagine you'd get more for it repaired. If vw quoted 1300 then shop around see if anyone can do it properly cheaper.

    Dick

I admire Dick. Anyone can be a Richard but it takes Balls to be a Dick. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  17. Normally open vacuum supply cutoff using boost pressure. Vnt15 doesn't have a wastegate. The actuator controls the angle of the vanes, directing exhaust flow to either increase or decrease boost.
  18. This is why i cant find anything blackrat, i cant explain what i want. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Brief explanation before last resort diagram. The actuator on the turbo is operated by vacuum. approx -19psi. I want to begin shutting off the vacuum supply at a given +psi approx 5psi, supplied from the compressor side of turbo. Cant bleed into the vacuum supply. So im thinking surely theres some sort of a pressure operated shut off valve type thingy to do the job. Hope this helps and thanks so far. Cheers.
  19. Hiya, Could someone with pneumatic knowledge help me identify a suitable valve. Im not sure what exactly i need. The valve has to be normally open and air actuated. Meaning i want the valve to close and cutoff vacuum under pressure from a separate port.(have diagram if it helps explain) Id guess it was a "air actuated solenoid valve" but as im unsure im not having any luck finding something suitable. Closest ive found is this one: Series BST-NO http://www.plastomatic.com/catalog_aso.pdf So maybe something like this but operating at lower psi, max of 8 psi to fully close preferably adjustable. Any help and suggestions appreciated. Cheers.
  20. Great thread. Im in need of some new music. Recently brought the Arctic Monkey's new album, "Whatever People Say I Am Thats What Im Not", really good.
  21. If its glitching in bios then id agree is seems like a gfx issue. Im know im stating the obvious here but check the gfx card is seated properly. With some agp slots the card can rock slightly out of position. You could see if there is a bios update for your gfx. Also use a benchmark tool like 3dmark and give the card a good run. Good luck.
  22. Get a water spray and make sure the whole surface of the window has tiny droplets of water. Wiping it with a wet cloth is no good as the water will come together in patches or run off. Thats all the advice i can give you as ive only fecked up a sunstrip and gave up. good luck.
  23. Just phoned a garage to enquire about a cambelt change for my SDi 99' with 55k and was told shouldn't need doing til 100k. Now i am confused. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="confused.gif" />
