Petrified
I'm sure it's been asked many times before but I cant find it, can a gti front bumper fit on another model (like a 1.0e) ?does it need the grille too?how about the front wings?are the lights different?Thanks.James. Tigz™
No.Although the grill suround will need changeing.Yes. The wings are slightly flared. And Yes. The Headlamps on a GTi house the indicators, and the side lights are next to the headlamps. On a non GTi the indicators are in seperate lamps, and the side lights share with the main beam. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
Loopy Lupo
it's possible of course - p88bel did it his tdi - lot of work though - he also did the rear arches to match - that was major bodywork though.
Tigz™
Well he did half of it.I forgot to say, you also have to replace the sills. His *Cough* GTTDI had slap on skirts style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Petrified
Great stuff. How about the bonnet? Is this the same shape? and is the gti one lightweight?I also see that the GTI is the heaviest of the petrol engines, I'm guessing this is purely down to the engine weight itself.Does anyone know how much lighter the GTI would be if you dont take the engine into account, so how much weight are you saving by usingthe gti wings and doors? And do you have pics of this GTTDI? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Edited September 14, 2005 by Petrified
Tigz™
The GTi uses a cast block, where as the Sport uses an Alu one.I think this could be a cause.Where the extra weight comes from I dont know. The bonnet is the same shape, but made from Alu. Petrified
Sounds good! Also are the wing mirros different on a GTI to a sport?
Tigz™
No. The diffrences I remember are.Twin round tail pipes.Deeper rear bumper that includes that rear arch shape.Rounded rear arch.Smoother deeper sills.Alu slighhtly flared front wings.Deeper front bumper. You have to remove this to take out the grill if I remember correctly? Headlamps and side lamps as above. The battery is in the boot over the rear axle for what I think is to help weight distribution.Inside it came with a leather steering wheel and gearknob. Some colour cars came with red seat belts. It has a anologe clock in the centre of the instrument panel, shiney bolt holes and a flat black chromed trim.Black headlineing are carpets in all models I belive? The shockers are supposed to be diffrent, but after useing GTi struts last year I dont think theres any diffrence.Thats all I can think of.
